Currently poles in minecraft take up the space of an entire block, however this is not mainly the problem. When underwater, the poles show air around it taking the normal area show of an entire block. (this makes it looks cheesy and plain bad.) If Notch could fix this is 1.5_2 or later? That would be awesome :smile.gif:
This means it is pretty much as compact and as easy to store as it can get, however means there can only be one block on each spot. That is why fences and signs and other things have air around them underwater instead a water block and a sign block being an the same square. It is also why instead of just having 2 :_:s on the same sqaure when you place them on top of each other there has to be a new block.
However they could still allow an update to have water surpass the blocks visibitlity as they have with the weater update.
He means Notch could make the 'air' around a pole or a fence be water instead if it was submerged, or something to that effect. Basically he is saying there is a way to make them look better, will Notch put it in?
This is low priority for me, I would rather he get to some of the older bugfixes and just come up with some new stuff. I know he is busy but I would really like to take a peek at the Aether or anything else he is working on.

Yeah, this is just a minor update and it falls under this category. I realize they should should work on major bugs first, however this must be done too.
