I've thought of a way to make soulsand a tad more interesting than it is right now.
What soulsand currently does: Right now, It can slow you down a lot, and can also be used to trap mobs in a room, but other than that, It's just an eery looking block.
Soulsand looks like it could pull you downwards like quicksand, in fact, that's exactly what it should do.
To elaborate: Quicksand is lethal, no? Soulsand should have the ability to suck you downwards if you stand on it for too long (Similar to the sand in the pyramid level on Mario 64),
How far the soulsand pulls you down depends on how much soulsand is below you, if you are standing on soulsand only two blocks deep, it will only pull you down by one. Soulsand will not pull you down if there is only one block of it between you and good old solid ground, The deeper it is, the farther you go. Once you're caught, the only way to get out of the soulsand is to try and dig out the sand beneath you before you get in over your head.
This might sound a little too easy to escape from soulsand, but here's the catch, Soulsand slows your walking speed by about 50-75%, so it would make sense if it drastically impaired your digging speed as well.
I'm half awake right now, So I'll try to elaborate a little more later on. In the meantime, Tell me your opinions about this and explain why you do or do not like it.
Happy mining!

That would make soul sand act like quicksand, which is something that would COMPLETELY break what it is used for now, and wouldn't be at all unreasonable to have in the overworld as its own quicksand block.
The New Nether expands on Soul Sand's abilities already, giving it sticky properties on top of that of slowing the player down. It can also be used for smelting a special harder Soul Glass that can react to redstone current by turning opaque.
.. no it is not.
Quicksand is sand and a source of water under it. It is more water than sand.
Humans float in water.
If you dont try to die, you will simply float above quicksand. If it has no good escape routes, you probably will starve to death rather than drown

So, in a sense, it is lethal. :biggrin.gif:

Nobody? It's called soul sand.
So, in a sense, it is lethal. :biggrin.gif:
