When you think of MineCraft what do you think of? One of the things you may think of is the setting. A medieval Europe style which a cute blocky style. Now when you think of Medieval Europe what comes to mind? Castles, plate armor, swords, knights etc. However there is one thing I assure most of you thought of that is not in MineCraft. The mythical creatures known as Dragons.
Now here is a basic idea of how I believe Dragons should be implemented into Minecraft.
Basic features:
Appearance: The dragon would be in European style with dark red body with grey highlights along it(such as in its wings and horns). The dragon would be of course in the same "blocky" style the rest of Minecraft is in. However the dragon would look terrifying nonetheless . It would strike fear with its look alone even into the bravest of miners. Not dopey like some other dragons. It would stand on 4 legs with a pair of wings on its back, it would also posses the ability to lift its front legs up(such as when it breathes fire)
Size: The Dragon would be about 11 blocks tall. To compare to your height here is a basic chart. Although they could sometimes be larger up to 16 blocks in height. Making them the tallest mob yet.
Power: The Dragon would have a few attacks to use against you.
1. It weaker attack would be its close range attack, a swipe with its front claws to damage you if you're close in. This attack would also have to ability to occasionally destroy some blocks. A hit would deal 2 and a half hearts.
2. Fire. You can't think of a dragon without its ability to breathe fire. This attack would have longer range than it's claws and deal more damage. The true detestation would be in the fires ability to burn blocks such as wood, wool etc. BUT also it would be able to "melt" some blocks if sustained onto the block long enough such as stone, brick, cobblestone, glass etc. Bringing true destruction to the land. The initial hit would deal 2 hearts and a half of heart of damage every second afterward until it went out on its own(in about 15 seconds) or you jumped into water.
3. Flight. Using its 2 powerful wings on its back the dragon would also be able to fly, not some crappy hovering but try flight through the sky, this used along with fire would make any fight with this beat dangerous. That cobble stone tower with glass windows you built? Not safe anymore, the dragon could hover outside your window and breathe in fire both melting the glass and cooking you inside.
Drops: If you do manage to slay a dragon you would be rewarded with 5 to 7 "Dragon Scales" these items would be used for crafting. With Dragon Scales would could craft, armor, swords, pickaxes etc. It would be more resilient and stronger than diamond. A D.S. pickaxe would mine even faster than diamond, D.S. armor would offer more protection etc.
The idea is the Dragon would be the most powerful mob ever seen in Minecraft to dare, making every encounter a miniature boss battle.
Now how do you balance this power out? You make it EXTREMELY rare, similar to how Slimes used to be. Even if you're actively hunting it you could go a week before you find one. You may believe this is overpowered however remember it is supposed to be it is a goddamn Dragon afterall. Not to mention a creature this rare should be powerful.
I kinda like the idea, though I want the option for it to be friendly as well.
Maybe you could steal a Dragon egg and tame the baby or something?
I think having a pet dragon would be pretty epic, to say the least. Able to kill creepers in 4 hits... Heh... I like to see them hiss after THAT. And maybe the fire wont burn anything, like a blue flame? Also, the ability to ride a tame dragon, for faster transport.
Dragons also sleep. A lot. So maybe fix them inside of caves, and if you wonder too close when not sneaking, they awaken and attack? And of course, there would be hefty rewards, gold and Dragon Eggs.
But with Dragons, I also think of villages under attack by dragons... so yeah... that, and gold...
Maybe they could have their own dungeons? They don't spawn, just sleep in the middle, with a chest or two in the back. And since you can't sneak when opening chests, you have to fight them to get the reward. Creepers and other mobs shouldn't be able to spawn to close to a sleeping dragon, because they would be too afraid of it.
They cave should always connect with the surface, and should be in a large mountain. Smoke should sometimes puff out the front, too. And there should be lava or something in there, for light.
I don't know, lol. Just make it epic and worthwhile. Dragons should still exist in peaceful mode, though they wont breathe fire or attack unless forced too. (Like stealing from their chest, or attacking them.)

Now what are your thoughts?
spell check died today...
Its a goddamn dragon its supposed to be powerful. Not to mention it would be very rare so its not like you would be running into it all the time.
Maybe you could steal a Dragon egg and tame the baby or something?
