This suggestion is an attempt to make sleeping in Minecraft for exciting.
When the player sleeps, there's a small chance, they may start "dreaming". Dreams will appear as the regular world, but in the daytime and everything slightly blurry. Strange things might happen, like pigs could fly. Non-agressive ghasts might appear really high up in the sky. Pigs might get up on their hind legs and become "Pigmen". Like Zombie Pigmen, but... they wont be zombified. Maybe, clouds might appear as different colors, too. No damage can be taken, but no damage can be dealt. Furnaces and Workbenches can't be used. Same goes for Note Blocks and Jukeboxes. Nether Portals would close. The inventory can't be opened. Blocks can't be manipulated. All the player can do is wander and wait for his dream to end.
The music would be a type of distorted harps and pianos. It would be peaceful and slow... perhaps some backwards whispering too.
The player would visit the dream for up to 2 minutes, before the player teleports back to his original body in the real world. No strange things are happening and it is now daytime. Maybe there could be an achievement for visiting the Dream World, too.
not sure if dreams are such a good idea. they dont really have much of a point, though i guess they would be somewhat interesting ONLY if they were about 30 seconds maximum.
what about a random picture of a mob or painting comes up for 30 secounds
That would be a bit weird and spooky. I mean, just think about it. Just starring at a mob or a picture for 30 seconds. What if something pops out! SPOOOOKY!
good ideas, would we be able to consciously walk around? maybe the dreams will vary, like we're up in the clouds, and have it be as unexpected as normal dreams are, maybe a hole opens up right under you and you fall into the ocean, except you can still breathe like normal, or you're walking up to a big temple, but a strong wind is pushing you back and you can't get close, or you walk up to a pig and start to pet it, and the pig grows and squishes you, or you're walking on a frozen lake and you see a person under the ice, but you can't get him out because the ice is too thick, and before you wake up, you see the person slowly sink out of sight, or you're on a platform and suddenly you're seeing yourself from the outside, you're folded up into a plane shape and thrown off by an invisible hand, and you glide down to earth, or you're in an underground tunnel, and you're walking and walking and walking and walking, but you can't see the end near, or you're on a giant checkerboard and you're a king, but you're alone, and all the black pieces are walking towards you with their swords out, or you suddenly discover you're able to step through mirrors into other dimensions, but each time you step through, what you see in the mirror is even more twisted and evil then the last one you stepped in, really wacky stuff that'll keep people coming back for more, if it's just you wandering around for two minutes, it'll get boring quickly
It would be cool if occasionally these happened and like, focused on some area of the map with some good resources or something. Kinda like a dream trail or something?
Dreaming would be cool , but only for 30 seconds , Beds are for skipping the night , so people that only want to build or mine , or noobs that are afraid of mobs can skip the night and keep doing their stuff without having a creeper to blow up all their stuff.
So , 30 seconds is good , but having to be stucked in a dream/nightmare would be really really stupid and annoying.
I support only 1/2

Notch could use the "drunk" effect when you press F8.
