1) Searching is your friend. This has been suggested before, and your suggestion fails to meet my criteria for redundant posts, that being 1) innovation and 2) new detail.
2) Notch has said on his twitter that there are various problems with stained glass, and while he would like to implement it, he probably won't any time soon.
Stain glass would be an amazing idea and would add so many different things to Minecraft. But like what was said above, it would be a very difficult thing to do.

i actually talked about stained glass myself yesterday, it was in a thread about better uses for gold. OP may be interested in this one, it has alot of interesting crafting ideas with a purely decorative bend to it, no "gold swords plus unbalanced magical add-ons = diablo 2 ripoffs!! HOORAY!!"
it was entirely decoration themed objects, one of which was stained glass. its a shame to find out from you we wont be getting it too soon though, but im happier knowing notch wants it as well... from desire and innovation, we get creation :tongue.gif:
im sure hell get it worked out someday, if he wants it in the game.
It would take for ever to code.
Notch has considered it.
Take up too much space on the terrain.png and item.png
Notch intends to do it if he has the time, and for the last time, it's not terrain.png and item.png that are problems. Ideally they would use alpha sets the same way wool does.ß

It would have the problem in terrain.png though.

I wish I was in this :C
Just like colored wool, amirite ? And slabs?
terrain.png is the least of the problem. It's light filtering.
