Yes, I know this has been suggested before! No need to remind me! This is a basic suggestion, don't expect it to be perfect, as you may HATE every part of it. It will become a better suggestion and such in time.
My idea is that we can craft lightning rods. (Where haven't we heard THIS before?) They would be crafted as such and simply like this;
[] []
[] []
[] []
The lightning rod would be 2.5 blocks high, and appear to look like it is just two. (Similar to the fence?) You could also double stack them, like a fence, creating a taller lightning rod.
In order to harvest the power or lightning, you will need to make a transformer, which are make like so:
Where is redstone.
This would divide up the power from the lightning bolt, and divide it amongst batteries, which are crafted like so:
Each transformer can hold up to three batteries. It takes a third of a bolt to power one battery, so that means the transformer would split the bolt's energy into thirds, which are stored in the battery. What are the batteries for? Look no further! The batteries could be used to create things like flashlights, which are just tools that emit light, and they are right-click operated. You cannot double wield this with another tool, and each time you turn it on, it's durability goes down. It would be made like so:
[] []
[] []
Where is the battery.
You could also make things like wire. For wire, you would need to do this, and this would make 16 units of wire, which acts like redstone.
[] [] []
The wire can be put around in any shape you wish, like redstone dust. With this, you could create electric fences, to keep your wolves in, where they can run and frolic as they please, or to keep those nice pink and brown sheep in as they regrow their coats. You will need to create an electric collar like so:
[]
Where is leather, and is a battery.
To power the fence, you would need to craft a generator. The generator is crafted like so:
Where is wire, and is the battery.
You will need to put a new batter in every once in a while, because they can run out of energy.
The electric fence would create an invisible wall that for whoever is wearing the collar cannot pass. Maybe you can put them on your unsuspecting friends?
Also, what is unique about the wire is that they can be put on walls, allowing for the creation of light bulbs, which should be self explanatory, and are crafted like this;
[] []
They are put on the walls between two wires. In order for electric goods to work, you must create a circle with the wire, where both ends connect to the generator. If you don't know this, it is circuitry, and is very simple. I think I learned this in the third grade. The light bulbs could also be used to create lantern hats, like the mining hats. It would be created by putting a light bulb on top of an iron helmet, like so;
[] []
[] []
[] [] []
Where is a light bulb, and is an iron helmet. This could be worn, and also used like a flashlight, but WITH tools, although you would need to put a new battery in every once in a while. To replace a battery, simply take the object and put it in your 2x2 (or 3x3 on a crafting bench) crafting section with a battery, no shape, just touching, to replace it. You will get an empty battery back, so that you don't need to make another! Hooray for renewable energy!
EDIT: New ideas! Lights for a boat/minecart. Add a light a battery to a boat/minecart as so:
[] [] []
[] [] []
Where is a light bulb, is the vehicle, and finally is the battery.
Floodlights, they will light up an area up to 25x25x25 from in front of the light. Brightest closer to the light, dimmest furthest, and crafted like so;
[] []
Where is a light bulb, and is a battery.
NOTE: You will need a circuit and a generator powering it in order to use these objects! (Except for the vehicle lights, lighted helmet, flashlight, and electric collar which require a new battery every once in a while.
Electromagnet, attracts all of the iron in an area, including if it is held by another player! It will pull the object, or player, in towards the wielder, and it will slightly move the player's view towards iron ore (within 15 blocks). It has a set durability, and is right click activated. It is crafted like so;
Question: why would you suggest it if you know it's already been suggested? I know yours has more to it, and I like the idea, but you could have commented on another one.

Because a lot of the others took their suggestions into a completely different direction than what I had in mind, and the posters seemed persistent.

It's because bouble posts are against the rules. THAT is why we are persistant.

I like the idea. It would be a way of harnessing energy for more modern creations. Though you wouldn't be able to get that much, since thunderstorms are particularly rare.

Yes, and when I update it I will be more specific for how long each battery lasts and so on. It should be updated later today.
