You're about to go into your house to do some quiet crafting, maybe remodel that second floor... when all of the sudden. "BAAAA, BAAAAA, MOOOOOOO! BAAAAA, MOOOOOOO, BAAAAA!" How can anyone concentrate with all that racket?
You're about to take your minecart down the hill to see about gathering up some more ore and stone, but halfway there, you hit a cow. Your momentum stops, and now you have to push the cart the rest of the way. Sure, killing the cow brought you some grim satisfaction, but it is still an annoyance, and will probably happen again.
You missed a single square in your field, and come back to find your crops ruined. So much for that much needed grain harvest.
Well all of these things aren't much fun, are they? That's why I propose a creature anti-spawn device.
When placed, it prevents creatures from spawning within X squares of it. No more cows on your minecart tracks. No more bleating in the middle of the night keeping you from a restful sleep. Just blissful pest control for the workers.
So come one, come all, weigh in your 2 cents here.
Hmmm..... as long as it was made from rare materials, or was a rare find out in the world. I don't know though, because I'd rather have a more customizable sound menu than a new item.
How to get rid of passive mobs, keep the look of grass, and keep the area around your shelter lit up at night:
Step one: Get a cactus farm.
Step two: make a lot of green dye.
Step three: get a lot of green wool.
Step four: Remove all grass.
Step five: Place green wool wherever grass was.
Step six: Place torches where you need them.

Just be careful with lava/fire.
what do you mean passive mobs?
Passive: Mobs that don't attack you at all
Semi-aggressive: Won't attack until you attack them
Aggressive: Attack on sight of you.
