Ok, so I know a couple people already had this idea but I wanted to make a more elaborate. This idea is either a suggestion for the Mojang team or an idea for a mod. The lightning rod will be able to be made like this:

The lightning rod would be used by placing it on the ground in a high place. The lightning rod will be stackable to as many blocks high as you want. The higher the rod is the more of a chance it is going to be struck by lightning. When it is struck by lightning, it will act as a power source just like redstone torches but will also work as a repeater flashing on and off for 5 minutes or until you want to turn the rod off. If you want, you can make lightning rods out of diamonds or gold. When they are made of diamond or gold they are more likely to be struck by lightning than the iron rod. The diamond is the most likely, then the gold, then the iron. In order for the rod to power something, it would have to be connected to it by redstone dust. When lightning is struck it glows the same amount as a torch.
Uses for lightning rod:
1. Connect to a furnace to be able to cook something for longer than coal but not quite as long a lava bucket.
2. Connect to a pressure plate to work as a trap to electrocute mobs.
3. Connect to TNT to detonate the TNT only during a lightning storm.
4. As said before, can be used as a torch.
5. Connect to a lake or puddle to send an electric current through the water killing or injuring whatever is in it (besides fish)
6. If you place a bed by the lightning rod, it will spawn a zombie.
7. Can be attached to dispensers to make them fully automatic for as long as the lightning rod is active.
8. Can be connected to an iron block or gold block or diamond block to make them permanently glow.
Tell me any suggestions you have for the idea and if you like it.
Thanks!

attracts lightning to it rather than my house or anything close to it.
nothing else.
I HATE SIGNATURES MADE BY PEOPLE WHO THINK THEY'RE BEING CLEVER.
I agree and my lightning rod would do exactley that. I just wanted to add some extra features to my idea
