Hey Notch! I have some ideas for minecraft that you may like, i call it the Hero Update.
It adds Pikes, shields, changes iron armor to chainmail, makes gold armor king like, Bandit mobs, horse/craftable- saddles, FrostGiants mobs and Maybe some bosses that you have talked about.
Okay now i will go into detail.
Item: Pike/Spear
The Pike/Spear does as much damage as a stone sword but can hit 2 blocks away and does 2x damage vs large mobs like Giants, spiders, horses and or bosses. or 2x damage when mounted on a horse/pig.

Item Shield
The Shield works like armor but there is a 1/4 chance that the damage you will receive will go into the Shield instead of your HP.
Mob horse 4 HP
Well its a mod that you can kill for the same amount of leather as a cow, and you can attach a saddle to it to ride it but unlike the pig you can choose where it goes and makes you 2x as fast + can jump over fences. ^^
Item Saddle
Im not going to say anything about it because you know what its for.
Mob Bandit 3/5 HP + Leather armor
Okay bandits, they spawn in desert and killing them will give you a random item. (loot) They spawn at night,
armed with swords and they will not attack you if you are wearing leather armor. (I really dont like deserts because they feel empty thats why i suggest this)
Mob FrostGiants/MountainGiants 8 HP + Leather armor
They spawn near mountains/frosty hills killing them can give you iron/leather/pork.
(I love the idea of having gaints near mountains.)
Oh and i have some ideas for some boss mods.
Gaintworm: digs around the map and can be found making caverns ment to scare people, killing one drops everything it ate like iron bars, gold, powder, bones, ect. And for every 10 blocks it eats it grows in size. They should be very rare.
Red Dragon: Okay i know that you said that you were not going to put dragons in the game but what if they were bosses? Is spawned at the start of the game in dungeons in the place of mob spawners. (im not saying remove the spawners im saying there is a chance that a dragon would be in a dungeon and not a spawner) The are found sleeping and if you get 4 blocks of them they will wake and become hostile to EVERYTHING! defeating one will get you what ever is in the chests. (mostly gold)
I would recommend the excellent game rules thread provided not long ago. There's no particular reason your mobs are better than the existing set and won't fade into obscurity, and you didn't give any explanations with regards to your new weapons and armors.

OT: Try to expand on your ideas, din't just throw them out there, you have to get the ball rollling.

yea... unfortunately your not gonna get anywhere with that. notch doesn't read these forums, but other developers do, i think. im pretty sure that theres one in particular (i cant recall his name) who likes to look over this place alot....
but in either case, you should read the sticky thread titled "why your RPG ideas wont work in minecraft" (or something similar to that). much of what youve suggested here has already been explained away in that topic, as something that will not be implemented into the game... in the hopes that people will not post about them.
i absolutely agree... and hope... and even yearn a little... that they will add many new monsters to fight in the updates to come... the few we have are very limited, and i myself am one of those who wouldn't mind a couple more types of mellee weapons, much like yourself...
but most likely, its gonna be swords and a bow for a long time... unless the developers have a sudden change of heart, or some new mob inspires greater variety in the combat of minecraft. [>>-i>]

Notch doesn't browse these forums, he only looks at tweets, and even then he only looks at really really short ones.
