You may already be aware that there is a capability for players to wear capes in-game, but currently it's not used a whole lot. (A christmas cape and a new-years cape were temporarily released for everyone during those times, and currently the only other known capes are the ones worn by Mojang staff, the bacon cape for the player who came up with Pigmen, and the 1,000,000th purchase cape worn by some lucky guy)
Basically, I think integrating capes along with achievements would be a good opportunity to provide a visual reward for certain achievements, (visible on SMP servers as well), and provide a good long-term usage for capes.
Completing "hard" achievements (probably ones at the end of a specific achievement line, or ones like the "Pigs Fly" achievement) would unlock a cape. Players would be able to select a cape to wear from the achievement screen by clicking on the achievement once it's unlocked, or a "no cape" button if they want to take it off.
I could tell you to use search. I could tell you that this is already suggested. I could tell you that this suggestion sucks. I could tell you any or all of those. But I won't, because you've made a once hated and crappy idea good. This is an original take on capes and I commend you for it. +1 support
I like this idea, I hope Notch implements it. And to the above poster, search is down(unless you follow the instructions in the thread in my sig), so you can't really blame him.

Search isn't down. Joining the searchers group or just using google is searching. It isn't so hard. He shouldn't get flamed for nmot searching, as this is a whole new take on the idea, so it doesn't matter.
That's not dreadful. Each cape's image could be as simple as the icon used for the achievement. It also doesn't conflict with the idea of personalised emblems which has been floating around a bit lately.
My thoughts exactly! Like the "ride 1km" achievement cape would be a simple icon of a speeding cart, or something similar.
Plus this leaves room for other things too. Like, one thing I was thinking of would be different "tiers" for the cape, depending on the difficulty of the achievement. The tiers could be signified by something as simple as ornate borders or trim around the cape. As an example, the "ride 1km" achievement would be the simple icon, a new "ride 2km" achievement would be a similar cape but with a gold border around the edges, and a "ride 3km" achievement would be an entirely new color with an ornate gold border.
Really simple things, but it would provide a neat little diversion, and extra incentive to do the really tough achievements, and yet another way to add some customization.
Not bad idea, but yeah, the obvious has already been stated. You can use Kira's stickied thread or google too.

I am just a guy looking for good suggestions that are original, creative, and match the theme of Mine-craft. I have some mob ideas that I need help forming which is a community project.

What do you think?

I did. Nobody else has suggested this. There are other miscellanious suggestions involving capes, but none that I saw were used like this.
