Letting it snow on them is a good idea, because that same strategy is what makes the pressure plate + tnt work really well, because the falling snow will go on top of the pressure plate as if it were a whole block.

But again, with a pressure plate, when it isn't snowed on, it's absolutely visable, with these mines on the other hand, even if it's not snowed on, it will still be hard to see. Since this idea seems pretty popular, do you or any of the other major contributers to this topic know how to make a good mod, since I'm new to modding, I think it would be much more likely to turn out right if somebody else who's more experienced made the mod. If you can make the mod, please do so and create a minivideo of how the mine would work, show the following...
1. How the mine would be built
2. How it is placed
3. Show that it doesn't harm the player who placed it
4. Show that it does harm animals and monsters who may step on it
5. Show how it can be covered with snow, and will be virtually invisable, but will still harm animals and monsters who step on it

If I knew the location of the file to mod it, i'm sure I could modify my knowlage on C++ into java.
The problem is about this idea, that we won't use TNT anymore :sad.gif:
This is much weaker than TNT, so TNT still has uses, like mining... or if you want to make giant ****ing craters.
Exactly, and you could still use it for more complex traps, like huge Pitfalls, Mines are just a more simplistic trap that ensures the safety of your home from mobs,TNT can be used to actually try and trap mobs, not just protect your home from them.
People seem to like this idea so far, so could somebody create a mod of Redstone recolored to be Black with a red dot in the middle (Basically Beta 1.4 style, for those of you who haven't updated, unpowered redstone is now dark red, and lit redstone is bright orangey-red), once you're done with that, could you make a mod like I mentioned showing how Mines would work.

Like I said... I will when somebody tells me how to mod minecraft, because I know hoe to code.

So they will still kill your yard
The sand falls down, and after the sand is gone, the lava falls. (Borrowed from someone, I forget who D:)
The top could be a fence or what not, even.
This way, your yard is still there, and all you need is sand and lava, much easier to get then gunpowder and sand (the sand is a moot point, I know.)

but not as badly as TNT would.
