Minecraft Addon Folder System
If anyone of you have played Garry's Mod, you'll know two things, at least I hope. One...it's awesome. Two, it had a folder called, "Addons"
Putting a Mod in this folder allows a mod to be installed WITHOUT sticking a bunch of random files into the wrong places, wasting 5 minutes of time, and derping up your game.
Here is how it works, for those who never played Gmod or do not know.
Normal Minecraft folder (Pretend) Minecraft
|-Bin
|-Models
|-****
|-Mobs
|-Textures
We add a folder, called, Addons, you place in a folder, which will be a mod which has been made for the add-on format, and the game loads the files as if they were inside the correct folders.
Let's say I want to install the grappling hook mod (Which is sexy btw)
In addon format, it would look like this GrappleHookMod (Folder name)
|-Bin
---Grapplehookscript
|-Textures
---Grapplehooktextures
We place the folder GrappleHookMod INTO the addons folder and the game takes care of the rest.
You do not actually half to put the files INTO the correct places, for the Addon folder and game will read it as if they were. This would allow mods to be installed in seconds and uninstalled in seconds without needing to go into the main folder and screwing **** up.
Does my explanation make sense? Please let me know if I am being unclear :biggrin.gif:

This is a proven good thing with Gmod, I am sure we could all work to solve any issues and perfect it for Notch. He doesn't have to do anything other than to make the Addon script into the game.

We really dislike the repeating of ideas do we not? I don't see why, I don't see 20 threads about it, and who knows, there is a chance this will revive it, we don't know till we try. I mean we have nothing to loose.
Do you like it though?

Minecraft supporting mods still lives. I like the idea of it, but not that I see a new post about it once a month

Really? I've never seen it posted before... Strange... Is there anyway to keep it alive then?
