Introduction
Hello minecraftforum!,
Within a few days( or weeks) a new update (1.5) will arrive. This will update will bring rain, thunder, saplings etc. But there is one thing I want to talk about and that is the achievements. Yes, I realize that some people dislike the idea of achievements which is why I thought of this suggestion. What if you could redeem your achievements for minerals such as coal, iron, and diamond? This could attract people to try different things in order to receive the achievements.
Now let's move onto the redeeming of achievements:
The lower tier achievements could be redeemed for coal
The middle tier achievements could be redeemed for iron
The higher achievements could be redeemed for diamonds
Pros
•This will get minecraft players to do more things
•Minecraft players will be able to get minerals without mining
•Achievements will no longer be there JUST for bragging rights
Cons:
•People may complain about how easy it is to get these minerals now
*Please tell me what I should add onto the Pros and Cons

I'm sorry if this has been posted before and if it has been posted before please provide a link.
This is awful. The whole point of an achievement is... well, the clue is in the name. It's an achievement. It's its own reward. Magically acquiring some ores for cutting down enough trees, or whatever, is stupid and breaks immersion.
Making achievements an easy way of collecting minerals takes away the special "achievement" factor and turns it into something everybody figures out the easiest way to do so they can get the free minerals. Most likely this is going to happen anyway, as people usually want to "win" at things like this, but there is no reason to give them a huge reward of diamonds for it.
Besides, achievements are probably going to be easily hackable/trickable - yet another reason not to include valuable in-game rewards.

Why would you cheat at achievements to get valuable items when you could use InvEdit to give the items to yourself? But I'm still against this idea. If you want diamonds, set a personal achievement to go down and mine a diamond block. The reward? A diamond! Yay!
