As most of you know, Notch is adding weather in 1.5. Many people have suggested barometers, but they have been shot down a lot. I'm playing minecraft, and as I was looking at the clouds it hit me... what if dark clouds traveled over the world. After these clouds got within a certain distance the snow/rain would fall, and the lightning would strike. This would add an easy way to see storms without needing any sort of craftable item.
Yes... even if Notch wanted to add my idea, he would have to redo a lot of the storm code, but at least you wouldn't get hit my lightning out of nowhere with no warning whatsoever.
the normal clouds get darker and less see-through, you mean? The light starts to dim as it blocks the "sun"? Then blammo the pig next to you is suddenly walking on its hind legs?
how would the clouds change shape?

I dunno about this guy, but I was thinking of how you could literally see weather changes coming by the minimum spawn size of clouds becoming larger along with darkening clouds. The idea of blotting out the sun before the storm hits though I'm rather 50/50 on. I would just like there to be a gradual change between nice and clear with no sign of a storm- to heavy storm- back to nice peaceful day. Just a simplistic weather sign like this would do. I mean, I really don't think that it would be TOO much to ask for even. The coding should rather flow with the idea.
So, for teal-deer'ers, I think larger and slightly darker clouds should begin to spawn beforehand, stick with the storm, then dissipate later.
