With the recent addition of X's rant about how the adventure and exploration aspect could be improved with small tweaks, I began thinking of my own ideas. He brought up many ideas that included new mobs in the depths of the minecraft underneath the soil. He also said that mods don't do anything to add to minecraft, which contradicts himself because of the fact that there are multiple mods that add new creatures and new things to explore for. The fact is that I'm getting slightly off topic with that and I do respect his opinion about minecraft, even though I don't think his suggestion is not more important than any other suggestions on these forums. The Oceancraft suggestion (viewtopic.php?f=1&t=67089) does, in my honest opinion, everything X wants and more, but because X is popular among the youtube population he gets more attention then qwertyz and the others that he quotes in his original post. I do love X's minecraft series, it was the first one I watched, is still the longest one that I have ever seen fully, and it is probably my favorite let's play series to this day. I have gotten on a bit of a rant, and I want to begin my suggestions of how to add to the adventure aspect of minecraft without just adding new mobs and items.
My Ideas About Improving Adventure: Biomes
When the new biome update was announced, I got excited. I thought of the new possibilities of how I would have to venture off from my original camp to find a desert with little water except for a single Oasis in the distance. And how I would need to travel across that desert in order to find an Ice wasteland with a single tree every minute. But I was sorely disappointed when I logged on and I saw a desert, a forest, and a frozen wasteland all right next to each other. After walking for 30 seconds I was out of the forest and found a mountainous terrain, and after another 30 seconds I was aquainted with another frozen wasteland. You might see where I'm going with this.
THE BIOMES ARE TOO SMALL
The biomes don't feel like biomes. They don't have their own adventure, uses, or differences. Besides the fact that the snow biome makes it easier to travel across lakes what's the difference between it and a flatland biome? What's the difference between a desert and a snow biome besides the cactus and the snow and the whole thing where the desert biome makes it easier to create glass. I just don't see the point with the current sizes of the biomes at this point in time.
I don't want to stray away from biome ideas to much. I did say adventure idea's besides mobs in my subject, but obviously the idea of biome specific mobs has so much potential for the exploration aspect of the game. Notch stated somewhere that he preferred one sentence long ideas so that's what i'm going to do. Obviously besides that whole mess of words above this paragraph.:tongue.gif: I will make it into a list so it's easier to read.
List of Ideas for Biomes
Larger biomes
Biome specific mobs
Biome specific blocks
I know this would be a hefty thing, but a nether biome that is pretty much the nether with a roof cut off and the sky turns reddish-orange
Biome specific Natural disasters(besides rain and snow, which I do find will be cool and not a useless update as I have seen stated before)
Larger oceans(Oceancraft if possible)
Vehicles or something to help traverse land faster besides going on water with boats and having to create a minecart system.(the mo creatures mod does this quite nicely with horses I believe). I know this is kind of straying away from the biome idea, but travel isn't always fun when walking.
New Plants in biomes
If there are any new ideas that could be added to the list please leave a comment. Also leave comments about how this could be a bad idea(don't be sarcastic and douchey please. Have some reasoning behind it). Do not leave a comment about how X is better then me as a person and I don't have the credibility to say that I have better ideas then him.(which i'm not, i'm just throwing ideas of my own).

Yes, yes! Larger biomes for sure. And maybe different types of dirt for each or something? And if you carry boreal forest dirt into the tundra, the temperatures will change it into tundra dirt or something like that?

I think fewer, more unique biomes would be better.
Just forest, desert, mountainous, oceanic, arctic and plains would be fine, I reckon...
