OT: What the guy above me said. Notch doesn't want it.
Notch will put in what the people who haven't yet bought the game want won't he?
Not if it's going to drastically **** off his existing consumer base. We're the ones who were willing to shell out for a product that's not even finished yet. If he's going to completely change the game to something else entirely, that's grounds to ask for money back on bait-and-switch tactics.

An Adventure mode with a hellishly restraining global values system doesn't sound like an adventure at all, more like a linear number-crunching game. Either way, Adventure Mode isn't even set into stone yet, I don't see why people use that as a retort against it.
It's like people addressing overpopulation with the Mars Colonization Project. Since most of the ideas that are based around it aren't even cut into shape and layed out in an exact plan, you can say "We can go to Mars and not worry" but it won't mean anything until the people in charge make a plan on how its ACTUALLY GOING TO HAPPEN.

Agreed. Many people are pissed off about RPG ideas because they are solely thinking that if it was implemented, it would be in survival, which would totally not be the case. Notch should let each individual CHOOSE whether they want to play the RPG aspect or the survival aspect. I really doubt that if he considered it, he would blend it into survival. I bet you that if the RPG part of minecraft had it's own mode, not as many people would be bitching about it, because THEY themselves would or wouldn't choose whether or not they wanted to play that mode. It's funny how so many hypocrites are hating on RPGs, even though they probably play RPGs themselves... they don't realize that until they look up what RPG really means. ./rant

And next to that, the name is misleading anyway. They can play the "oh MY version of RPG has nothing to do with a gaming system that is made to manipulate progress made in the game" doesn't change the fact that it exists. Unfortunately for him, RPG is only a term to describe something that happens in every single game ever, and not the gaming engine that has been being used by game industries for many years.

I am perfectly aware that not all RPGs do that, just as I am aware that every game requires you to play a role and therefor could be called an "RPG" under your apparent viewpoint...
However, since this specific thread and the stance you seem to be defending are supporting a level/class based advancement system that restrains what players can do, that reality changes nothing.

RPGs kind of got all mushed up into one pile of games when the best way to make a game last longer was to implement levels. Some don't do that, some do it well, and most it turns into a boring chore. For some games, going up in levels just means you can get through the game quicker and see the story easier, while some it just bordered on "You must collect 20 crystals to pass this quest" or having to take out a dozen pointless enemies to have enough points stat-wise to handle the boss. It became worse when they started reaching the bigger consoles and began to have enough room to implement the whole "giant list of stats that are only useful sometimes" and the NPC Blackhole Shop problem.
I grew up on RPGs and liked them, a lot of them were innovative, and a lot of them I just put up with, and there were a few that just downright sucked. The stories were enjoyable, but it seemed like the gameplay got in the way too often. Which is why I worry about Adventure Mode so much. It might go from a massive adventure where you do what you wish at any given time in the Minecraft way, or a mode where you have to collect meaningless numbers and items until you can do what you wish at any given time.

No actually RPg elemnets are based of skinner box methods of developing games. This is tricking the player into playing more by giving them small rewards once they complete a certain task. Like leveling is skinner box crap. It's lazy design. So next time, learn something about game design before you post please. If you didn't know this you have no right to talk in this thread.

Okay, shall we then post are PERSONAL PARAMETERS when it comes to our preferences and dislikes of the RPG game scene so we know what and why we are bothering to complain? I don't even understand the OP's point of view since all they did was complain, and Zygo kind of vaguely described his but there are some here where we don't know what our personal preferences are.

No, I will not subscribe to your channel because you asked... but I might if it's *good*.
This part bugged me on the Why your RPG ideas won't work for minecraft and on this one.
A bank will loan you money, and you decide how to spend it. Sometimes you waste it, sometimes you spend it well. It depends on what you think is worth buying. If you are not carefull, you will owe the bank a lot of money, and you might not be able to pay it back. Your debt to the bank increases every moment you owe them money.
Life is like a bank. It loans you time, and you decide how to spend it. Sometimes you will waste it, sometimes you will use it well. It depends on what you think is worth your time. For every moment you are alive, life is taking back time. You will run out of time, and that is when you die.
What is practical to someone might be impractical to someone else.
You were on to a good simile, here; however, you didn't take it far enough.
What if the bank told you how to spend your money? That's the waste; you borrow a bunch of money, but the bank tells you how spend it; you have no say in the matter, largely.
"You can't start a small business until you purchase a potted plant for every room in this building!"
People get pissed when the waste of time is something they don't want to do.
Building a mega-structure? "Waste of time," as you'd argue, OP.
Having to go find the wizard's hat so that he'll teach you how to make a pick so that you can mine the stone for it? A waste of time that we shouldn't have to deal with if we don't want to.
I'll be honest; I enjoy some RPGs. I derive amusement from developing a character. I also enjoy Minecraft, and the relatively large amount of freedom it offers.
