I suggest making TNT explode instantly if it is activated, but also creating two new blocks, fuses, and timed TNT . Reason
in real life, if an explosive is primed or in some other way made to detonate, it just blows up, there is no delay unless there is a fuse or timing device on it.
Benefits
1. land mines would be much easier to make with "normal" TNT
2.more realistic features
3.explosions with plain TNT would be easier to predict because all the explosives would go off at once.
Normal TNT
The normal TNT under this system would detonate immediately if activated (with the exception of being set on fire) and thus would be better for traps and large explosive charges ( the latter because the path of the explosion would be easier to predict because primed TNT would not be flung everywhere.
Fuses
Fuses would be made out of three vertical wool blocks on either side of three vertical gunpowder pieces. Fuses would not be placeable, but would be combined with plain TNT to create timed TNT.
The fuses would look like a thick black or green string
Timed TNT
timed TNT is exactly the same as what TNT is now.
Drawbacks
making fuses would be extremely expensive unless it were possible to craft gunpowder, which i also like the idea of. EDIT: To reduce the expense of the fuses, i think a single recipe should give you about 10 of them.
Wouldn't it make more sense to use string instead of wood?
I like this idea though.
string could work, but in real life, fuses are basically a piece of cloth (or some other neutral but flammable material) wrapped around a core of gunpowder.
oh, by the way in order to address the expense of the fuses, i think it would be a good idea if one recipe gave you... lets say 10 fuses.
