I never quite got what redstone was. It would make more sense to replace redstone with gold, as circuits are actually made from gold, and gold is pretty useless otherwise.

Kill the thread, please. Seriously. If you don't understand redstone - YOUTUBE! There are millions of redstone tutorials. (Almost) everything I know about redstone I learnt by watching them.
Oh, did I mention that you should KILL THE THREAD?!
Redstone seems to be based off the element arsenic, wich although is extremely toxic and dangerous, it's a vital ingredient in modern computers. It slightly changes the circuit by adding an extra electron to the flow. Gallium does the opposite. Gold just carries the flow, and although it is the best conductor of electricity, silver, copper, and other metals are often used because they are less expensive and more common than gold. Now if you really think that gold could be added into the circuits, you should read my post on Silicate circuits witch can use either gold or iron in it. The link is in my signature.
I have to say, another use for gold (that takes into account gold's real-world use in circuits) isn't that bad of an idea.
How about gold ingots being craftable into gold dust (16 dust per ingot) that can be used in place of redstone dust in wiring? Gold dust would have the advantage of not needing a repeater/NOT-NOT switch; it would carry its signal infinitely and instantly.

I don't think that Gold should utterly replace Redstone, as the later clearly has properties that the former does not (for instance, I doubt a Gold Torch would work). However, I think that the Clock and Powered Rail show that there could, and I daresay should be more use of Gold in Redstone-powered devices. Machines FTW!
gold should be allowed to be made into coins, which can then be traded in, in-game for items that you can't be bothered digging for.
naturally, there would have to me some thought put into the exchange rate mechanism so that the most rare items cost more, but I think it would be a better use of gold than anything else.
it would also allow for the acquisition of items that are not actually available at that point in time by the usual methods, such as cocoa beans.
well... isnt it easier just to use gold ignots?
I mean.. whats the difference?
Make a server, get a bunch or reasonable people, who wont **** around, make towns, cities and create a central depositary - put someone in charge.
All mined gold should be given to the depositary in exchange for some good.. and blah blah blah..
Do I really have to explain how monetary system in a imaginative country works?
No. Redstone is redstone, and that's that. Gold is reserved for your booster tracks.

Seriously though, you can't make statements like that. It's not even an opinion. It's just you talking out your ass because you want to feel important. Unless you can come up with some valid argument for how making gold into a useful commodity would negatively effect the game, your point has no merit.

C'mon just give up this thread. All feedback so far has been negative. And all feedback will be negative.
I'll send you some destruction tools for the thread: x 256 and x 10000
Redstone is magical and can be used for magical electrical whatever.
They'v got their own uses, I don't see a reason to change that.
I'm just saying redstone should be replaced with gold. It would work exactly the same, but you don't have a rare mineral going to waste.
Redstone has no other use besides circuits and mass door opening.
And diamonds can only be used for the most durable tools.
WRONG!
Jukebox is:
Erhhm... NO!
