Alright, so I've had this idea for a while. How awesome would a mountain Biome be? The whole biome would be one huge, solid mountain. It won't have any caves inside it, and its base will be made out of minerals. It will be the perfect place for a mountaintop castle or a cliffside fortress.
A mountain biome would be great actually. It would consist of one very large very steep stone hill basically, with little or just a thin layer of dirt or gravel on the sides.
Unlike naturally forming mountains this one would take up the entire biome area essentially, and reach close to the highest altitude possible.
Resources should be available in the mountain, but at no greater frequency than mining anywhere else.
Mountains already form, and there is no point in this suggestion. Why do you need a mountain biome when you already have mountains?
Now we have hills. I meant for a huge mountain that takes up the whole biome.

Overpowered... and flesh out this idea more... it's been posted a few times in MUCH better detail.
Didn't mean it to be 100%, just a higher concentration than normal.

I think you got my idea. However, I think the height limit should be extended for the mountains to be extremely epic.
I like the idea of a mountain biome, as the result of elevation [ergo temperature] and precipitation. I imagine that you'd step through three biomes as you went higher and higher 1) fewer and shorter trees 2) tree line that is sparser dirt and no trees, but flowers here and there 3) use the current tundra biome with snow, ice, and an absence of trees.
I presume the game could figure out easily enough when and where to apply these biomes.

Hmph, I didn't think about the trees idea! Actually, for the mountain to be really huge, it could be spread out across 3: Base, Mountainside and Summit!

The problem with this is that mountains aren't biomes. Biomes are areas where different types of life can live, such as sugar cane or squids, not elevation.

Isn't a biome an area characterized by climate, elevation, animal life and plant life? ie Desert is hot, flat and lifeless (apart from cacti), tundra is cold, flat and lifeless, savannas are flat, warm and filled with animals but not many trees?
In that case, mountains will be high, cold, and not much life. Anyways, I'm talking about Minecraft's biomes, or areas, not the real life term.
ive seen huge motains before this is already in minecraft i live on a collassal one it has a very nice view
and if i walk go 10 blocks higher im at max height.
so i stake my

Well those mountains are very rare, and not many people find them. In addition, they have no special characteristics. A Mountain Biome would make mountain ranges possible, and have the mountains themselves will be solid, so they'll be great for fortresses with deep basements, cliffside castles and more.

Well a mountain range can just be comprised of a few "Mountain Biomes" together.

If you wanted a realistic mountain, you would have a breccia at the bottom, which is just gravel, then regular hill, then stone, then snow and ice.

so stop posting suggetions about them!!!

*sigh* even if its just in that biome, if you want to increase the map height he would have to reprogram the entire game
Also I already have a mountain range in the snow, and "mountain" does not exactly sound like a bionome.
Reprogram the entire game? Didn't know about that...
