This popped into my head when I got tired of looking into my inventory to see what time it is on my clock, since I had more important things on the hot tab. And I thought, it would be nice to be able to just look up on the wall and see what time it was. It would act as a painting, but not resize-able. It would take up 1 square, and would be as thin as a painting, showing the time the same way it would in your inventory. Sure, it has some cons, like being in a mine. Why would you put a clock in a mine, right? But in a house, it would go neatly. Like an accessory, like paintings. I would like to see it added, how about anyone else?
I approve. I think that you should be able to hold the clock/watch that there already is in the game, but if you want to you can place is on the wall like you described. Then you hit it like a painting to retrive it again.
What's so important it takes up all your hot-bar slots? I can see 1 tool, torch pile, and maybe scafolding material. But what else is there?
When I play I usually have a scaffolding material, 1-2 building materials, torches, a pick, an axe, a shovel, a compass, and a few other things that vary depending on what I'm doing.

different people play different ways.
So say your mining you bring a shovel, an axe, and a compass? You don't need a compass most of the time. :/
