I was thinking for new arts, clothing! you could make a mirror, and one of those things to turn wool into string, a sewing machine, etc. you could make rugs, clothes, new bed covers and pillows, you could make curtains, you could even make sails!!! and another idea, machinery, so you could turn two records into one, deciding whether to overlap them or make them consecutive, for 60 sec records, you could make a printer, you could make an ipod like so:
first, the memory of the ipod
teal wool=blank records
then:
teal wool=blank record for the wheel thing on ipod.
ham=redstone
and what could be a crazy idea, a genetics modification system on animals, to make your dogs weird colors and stuff, and we'd have to experiment changing stuff would do. (many a dog would be lost in this process), or you could put into the grass, making any certain type of animal spawning within the chunk have a huge head, or become an aggressive mob.
then you could have electronic book readers

and I was also thinking it would be cool if we could access each others books via online place, so not necessarily multiplayer, but also single player, like that you could have a collection of books not necessarily by you, giving more reason for them. at least I think so

-Notch said that maps' ability to save custom data could lead to the creation of real books written by players, or even paintings/signs that use custom textures.

Minecraft Wiki.
I wonder if Notch read this thread and thought of that possibility?

Do you like space games? I like space games. You should check out Starsector!
Just kinda throwing it out there, if you are going to add instrumets, add this - a drum set.
Very basic, it would just include highhat, one tom, one snare, floor tom, and base drum.
The controls would be by default something like this
(Left means Left hand and RIght means Righthand)
Q=Snare Left W = Snare Right
A = Tom Left S = Tom RIght
Z = Floor Tom Left X = Floor Tom right
Tab = Highhat (Caps Lock will have the highhat closed or open)
T will be crash
CTRL = Base Left Pedal Alt = Base Right Pedal
Everything besides crash is somewhat convieniently placed on the keyboard, with some practice it would be quite lovely.
I've realized that I never commented on anything other than the paintings, so here goes.
The book gui seems like one of the better ones I've seen, almost exactly how I imagine it would look in game. The page textures themselves I find a little ugly, but those would be included in texture packs so hey, I'd make it look however I wanted anyway. I disagree with the sketching of pictures simply because it means that more than just typing has to be coded in and I like to keep things simple. As for ink usage, sometimes people type something several times to get it to look just how they want it to, and that would consume a lot of ink. For the sake of these people, I'd suggest only using up ink when the changes are finalized upon closing the gui.
The scrolls seem simple and nice. As long as they show the title, which you have already thought of, they would work perfectly in my opinion.
The instruments seem overly complicated to me, and remind me a little too much of a needless minigame. However, I do like the recorder block, so I'm at a bit of an impasse about the instruments.

I'm almost 100% positive that this have been suggested before but i'll suggest it again anyways

I actually think that the page textures should be a little lighter. I will fix that up.

I didn't think of the "hard to code factor". I might change that, too. If people want pictures, they would have to make a painting.

I don't agree with this, as it is a little more realistic. Shakespeare surly didn't right his works in a single draft!
as for the painting. Notch did say that with the advent of the map, some sort of custom paining might be added in the future.
and the writing. well. you did know that ink is made from coal... and quite alot of ink is made from charcoal from woods like pine. at least it used to, in the not-to-distant past.

Perhaps, but there are already lots of applications for coal, whereas those poor ink sacs aren't good for anything other than slathering sheep.

I really like the painting and literature parts, but the music isn't doing it for me. Probably because we already have note blocks. But other than that, great job, I think it's really good.

Ipods and such would be much too modern, sorry.
Jamming with my friends on SMP would be awesome
(and we would probably be so bad we'd scare the
yah that would be cool
sort of like a library
