On anything and everything related to "making the instruments realistic", specifically to everything TheMagicalCake keeps bringing up:
Minecraft is not a simulator. You should not have to be able to play the instrument in real life just to make some music in a video game about mining and survival.
This same concept applies to anyone whining about trumpets not made out of the proper material or not having the correct number of keys. As far as I'm concerned, you're just crafting generic-minecraft-air-instrument-with-keys, and we happen to be calling it a trumpet. Get over it.
Thank you! This is just what I was thinking. I was avoiding getting into any more of an edit war with TheMagicalCake, and I thank everyone for helping out.
To anyone complaining about banjo, have you ever heard of people like Bela Fleck? The instrument is not stuck in its rustic roots (the American banjo originated with black slaves who attempted to recreate the instrument as they had remembered it from their homeland - as a result it was used widely by both black musicians on plantations as well as white musicians who attempted to emulate them through minstrel shows and the like) and has been shown to be versatile and beautiful by many talented musicians.
@Llama[random number] could you give me some feedback on the multitrack idea of mine? I'm not suggesting we get more disk time, just that we can record on that time multiple... er... times. So you could record a drum beat with noteblocks, then a banjo backtrack on top of that, then a violin solo on top of that, as an example, and you'd be able to hear all three instruments playing at once when you played it back.
Oh, and on the subject of decorating instruments, I meant as in painting them using the palette. And don't tell me that's unrealistic, they've been doing it for centuries. Here's an example.
First of all, it is NOT a random number, and I take DEEP offence in you calling it so. It is 666, as in the number of the devil, and 13, as in the date of the day the templars were murdered in there sleep. JKLOLOMGBBQWTHBRB.
That recording multiple times idea is great. I will add that to the OP.
However, I don't really think that there is that great of a need for the ability to paint instruments. It would seem weird and specialized.

"DEEP offense", really? xD That's just silly.
THIS IS NOT SILLY. MY RELIGION, SATANISM, REQUIRES THAT THE UNHOLE NUMBER BE TREATED WITH GODLY RESPECT.

*Sigh*... No. I answered your points and told you why I didn't think they were important. You don't have to like my suggestion. So I ask that you at least come up with some new, good arguments before posting again.
Oh, and I love the Banjo. And I will defend it to the death.
More to the point, maybe there could be a clarinet? Sorry, but I believe it could add that medium pitched sound to a band. And also maybe a trombone or Tuba? Then it could be- 1 low brass, two woodwinds, a brass, and two string.
Last musical suggestion- maybe there could be drums. It could be a block, you play by right clicking. Just one-three notes, pretty simple.
Also, could there be a way to add pages to a book? I was hoping to be able to make a massive book- 'Creepers'. Maybe you could put a book and a paper in the crafting grid to add to pages. Could you also use a pallete on a book, to add an illustration on a page? I think that this could add great variety. Lastly, maybe you would have to craft paint seperately. Aka- (Dye) + = 4-10 paint. (You could get the bucket). You can then have seperate values for each type of paint on a blank pallete.
I believe this has so much promise- would you mind if I tried working on it? I can model and texture pretty well, and I am starting to learn how to mod. I am not making any promises, but I could try.
The scrolls, when broken will the message still be saved? If so I can look real smart by writing several different things about creepers, a copy of "Thou Creeper, Shant Hug" , scrolls filled with architecture designs, a journal to preserve personal experiences, a scroll with the secrets of my house, a book with my worst fears written on it. =D
I wish you can make a scroll pot, a rectangle where you can place 4 scrolls in. =D
Can you please make a banner for the WHOLE thing? Y'know, instead of putting all of them in the signature, you could put only one, to save space. Cuz, I like all of these.
You're a genius, I'd definately want something like this in the game. It adds much more entertainment for the players, especially if you'd be able to download books/text and transcribe it into in-game books that are on bookshelves. That would be even better.
Just a tip, the trumpet should use gold ingots and the flute should use iron ingot instead of redstone.

It doesn't really count as a complaint if you haven't bought/used the "product". Right now it sounds like whining.

Would this work in multi? Is so, I sincerely need this. I could spend all day painting and writing in my citadel listening to
my loyal citizens.
I NEED THIS! RA!
