Now the suggestion.
To put it bluntly, a switch that has a cover on it so you don't hit it by accident.
Some people, like me, rig their castles to blow just in case it is invaded.
I don't like to have my hours of work destroyed by an accidental button bump.
It would be crafted like this:
[] [] []
[] []
[] []
where = glass and = button.
it would work like a door where it has two states, open and closed
Right-click to open or close
Left-click when open to press button
This could also be done with a lever
Or you could put the switch in a special room, or on a wall, or some place where you wouldn't normally click at all. Although you making your bases have self destruct is made of pure win.

Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Taking trolling to a whole new level, one post at a time.
BUT COULDN'T YOU JUST oops caps lock dig 2 blocks into a wall, put the doomsday switch in, and put a glass over that? and you have givin me a new challenge alongside my rollarcoaster: doomsday house!
This is what minecraft INVENTING is for. A lot of people suggest new things like this that are ment to be done with creativity and the already items/blocks provided. Invent something, simple like a glass over the lever, a new room with a combination to get in with the lever in, or whatever.
I don't like the idea because...it's base is set up completely on a complaint and a narrow hypothetical situation.
Why would you rig a castle to blow up? Why would you make a switch blow it all up, and why? Why didn't you place it in a more careful area? It's a castle right, there should be plenty of room?
Wrapping a switch in glass would be fun, but other than that it's not essential at all, when you could put a block of glass in front of it instead without implementing a new item by itself.
Now, the reason is if you have your switch protected by glass,
*other person walks up* []
"Hey! a button! wonder what it does?" [] []
*punch*
SSSSSSSSSS
*Death to all in castle*
It may need a key that is special to the switch to open: []
[] []
(I would like something better, but I can't think of anything)
Gold is under used so this could work well
Yep. I wasn't too opposed to the original idea, if only just for aesthetics/rule of cool/some situations in SMP where it's useful, but I really, really dislike the idea of keys. I'm mainly against useless intermediates, see.
And @Kira, but why build castles? They're just pretty cool, and self-destructs are often built tongue-in-cheek.
