I've seen many similar topics to this, yet not quite like this... I suggest that you can insulate wires with leather so that they don't combine with other redstone wires. You'd be able to switch the insulated wires to normal redstone by a torch inverter or a repeater. The recipe would be:

[] [] = Leather
[] [] [] = Redstone
Also, I think you should be able to insulate many wires with one leather. Maybe a ratio of 1:5, leather to redstone?

So much so, that I took a new take on it in my Redstone 5 thread. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=282504&p=3935755#p3935755
I suggested that a Solid Block can be made with Redstone and that it would work like a circuit, but be placeable underground and underwater.
Regardless your method allows tighter wires, and that I approve of.

I have seen this thread quite a few times.
Yeah... but I think this would be easier to code (and people wouldn't have to go spawn a bunch of new land to get it...) than a new "bluestone" mineral or something.
By the way, nice ideas in that thread of yours. =P
Thanks for the comments guys!
I really like this idea, although I think insulated redstone should connect to uninsulated redstone as well as torches. Insulated redstone should only conduct along two edges of the block it is laid on and the position of the player when laying it should decide the direction.
Think of it as being like a redstone repeater where you don't need to have a straight line of redstone as an input, there is no delay and no diode effect.
This would be very easy to code and would allow for much more compact circuits. Where you need the wire to turn a corner, you would have to do it with the current method of course.
There are already some circuits I have made where I use repeaters to provide insulation because I have space constraints, but it is expensive and adds delay. I would love a cheaper, simpler alternative.
