Cave fungus. (I saw a topic already posted but i had already thought of it before so i said i'd post my own- but with pictures)
Fungus is to stone as grass is to dirt, sort of. Uncommonly spawns during world creation in underground unlit caves in small clusters, but does not spread like grass. One parent fungus block can spread identical fungus up to a certain number of nearby blocks. This means it is a parent block (or more) that is created in world generation and a limited number of blocks spread from it only. There is no way to tell the difference between parent and copy fungus blocks.
here's some images done using sketchup (I'm only beginning, this 3d **** is confusing)
When you walk on it it makes a similar sound to walking on grass.
Possibility of harvesting fungus using a hoe or another scraping tool.
Possibility of different fungus colors types, maybe for use in crafting.
Can be planted on stone and reharvested from copy blocks (making it renewable) and can be used in decoration.
Grows fastest in darkness. Doesn't grow in natural light, but won't die once grown (like grass).

Ideas: * Mushrooms can naturally regrow on the fungus.
Mushroom farms anyone?
Subterranean mobs may spawn on fungus.
Tell me what you think.
(Do you know how to get rid of the black lines on the edges of the blocks?)
I really need to sleep... well only one block left,
but wait, the [SSSS] came and blew it away :X

But for now it's just like the polar opposite of grass (just rarer). Its just there for environmental effect. Could go well with life-supporting caves.

Thats a good idea! Mushroom farms here we go! I'll stick that in the OP
It doesn't have any real purpose in the game, so what use is there for it? And it bares too much resemblance to mossy cobblestone as well, which is basically fungus on stone as well.
As i said, for now its just for biome/ environmental effect. Mossy cobblestone is dark green. Cave fungus is light blue and is like rare underground grass. Grass has "no use" but looks pretty. But then you are very much entitled to your opinion and I thank you for your feedback.
