Greenskins would be a new group of enemies made up of Goblins, Orcs, and Trolls. The reason for adding them would be adding an actual threat to the game. The reason they would be a threat is that they would mine their own tools, craft their own weapons and objects, and build their own buildings. On top of that, they would attempt to destroy your stuff.
This is how it would work: If a greenskin saw an artificial block (there would have to be a way to differentiate between human and greenskin stuff) then it would become a little suspicious, and if its suspicion meter filled completely, then it would blow its horn. The horn could be heard anywhere on the map, and as soon as night came orcs would come to that area, and destroy any artificial blocks in sight. They would also be able to avoid holes in the ground and pressure plates, so you would need to design your traps well. Also, if they broke a chest or killed you, then they would steal all of the items that they found.
Here are their stats:
Goblins: Builder units, able to build certain preprogrammed structures out of certain materials
Size: sheep, but not as long
Speed: 80% player speed
Attack: 1/2 damage of whatever tool they are using, don't use swords (non combat unit, will not engage if it sees you)
Health: 5 hearts
Orcs: Worker\Soldier units, mines, fights, and hunts
Size:player
Speed: same as player
Attack: damage of whatever weapon they are using+1
Health: 10 hearts
Trolls: Heavy combat units, can be ridden by Orcs, cannot use tools
Size: 3 blocks high, 2 long, 2 wide
Speed:50% player speed
Attack: 5 hearts, Note: can pick up blocks and throw them, dealing 4 damage, and destroying aa block if it is weaker than the thrown block
Health: 15 hearts
that is my suggestion, feel free to comment.

Needs more work than that, and the word "Unit" gave away the origin of these enemies.
1. The word "Unit" comes from a lot of games. Unless I'm misunderstanding you.
2. Every idea is others in a different combination. No one should have to worry about covering their tracks.
To OP: It's a nice idea, but it'd be really difficult to make AI that builds and mines dynamically. I know some mods do it, but they're also kind of a mess.
I know that they would be a little over powered, that's why we need more tools to fight them with, like:
The spear:
Note: = wood/ iron/ stone/ diamond
Spears would have to use the main crafting material in the shaft, because otherwise you would end up with a shovel, they can all be thrown by right clicking, and have the same durability as swords (throw costs 2 durability), but do only 2/3 of the damage
The camoflouge block would make 9 camo blocks
The camo block would't be a block per se, it would be something you place on a block, like redstone wire, or in midair, like a block. It would be non solid, and wwould take the texture of the block next to it automatically when placed, it would also cover up the block it was placed on, and any thing else on that block. The purpose of this would be to trick greenskins into falling into your traps. You could also use it to build hidden doors. Finally, no I don'y know why this is preferable to trapdoors.
The flail:
[] ]" title="-<->" /> []
[] []
This would be another melee weapon. It would have damage and durability equal to an iron sword, but it would have a special effect. If you had it equipped and right-clicked you would spin it for as long as you were right clicking, and for every full spin it would do 1 more damage, but it would also take 2 more durability gamage when you used it, and it would drastically slow you down.
These are a couple of tools to help you take the fight to the orcs, which would be rewarding, because they would store their tools and craftable items in chests, which you would find in their bases.

Bub, about the spear design, I just said that the shaft is made of and the tip is flint, that is what makes it Not A Shovel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

makes a spike trap that hurts anything that touches it and is camoflouged
Since orcs have goblins to help them build and fight, and you have wolves to help you fight, and possibly dragons, then they should add:
That's right, the pigman
Health: 8
Attack: 3\4 equipped tool
Speed: 80% player speed
These would act like goblins, except that they would be friendly, if you were holding a tool and right clicked on one, then it would take that tool, then you could maybe press a button, and that would bring up a list of commands for it to do, I don't know.
To not be overpowered, they would have to live in small island tribes, away from the cruel orcs, if an orc saw one, it would attack it automatically, no horn, no backup , just bloodlust.
Backstory: Once the pig men were a happy people who roamed the land, and built amazing structures and devices. Then, one dark night, beta 1.6 was released, and a flood of orcs poured in to the land. The orcs were cruel, and evil, and all the pigmen were either reduced to the level of mere pigs, or fled to the nether in desperation, and were corrupted and driven insane by its foul influence , except for a rare few, that lived on in small island tribes, maintaining their culture in secret. Until now. then, a man called Notch came, and rallied the pigmen, and defeated the orcs with his amazing TNT cannons. Oh, also the smart ones went to the Aether, and became angel pigmen, who build great marble structures, but have sworn not to interfere with your goals.
Please post comments, someone.

I like the idea, although a troll just seems wrong considering the internet meme.
What are you talking about? Theres no such thing as a troll meme! Trolls are just people who cause problems on forums for their own enjoyment. Besides I dont care for memes when I name stuff.
The concept is good, but it seems to get a little overcomplicated. I like the idea of having a mob that interacts with its environment and builds little towns to raid and have attack you. But honestly anymore is unneccisary. It just needs to be a SINGLE and ORIGINAL race of mob (not the whole freaking horde from warcraft) who builds and populates. Also they shouldn't just be enemies, you should have to **** them off first (kill one or burn down their homes or something, or steal from their stockpile) before they come to hunt you down at your front door. Which atleast sounds more reasonable than changing like the ENTIRETY of the gameplay to fighting these hostile orcs/goblins/trolls of doom who are constantly trying to break your fortress apart while you're off mining.
I think Notch might have said to already be working on something like this; either goblins or Pigmen. The A.I. seems a bit too complex, so maybe they'd only be able to make certain pre-set structures from only a particular material, maybe wood or cobblestone. They wouldn't quite have to craft quite the same way as humans, but they would yield tools that allow them to collect whatever they can build from; shovels for dirt, pickaxes for stone, axes for wood, etc. They might be capable of some crafting, maybe making sandstone from collected sand, or wooden planks from trees, but they wouldn't have quite the crafting capabilities as a human player. I also think the suspicion thing is too complex; they should probably just be neutral until provoked like Zombie Pigmen, so they would gather their block type from whatever source they come across, even if it's something you built, and would be able to break through your structures to attack you once provoked. Just my spin on it.
mostly I thoought of these so that you would have a reason for big, overly complex rdstone traps, because a hole works just as well for anything but spiders. I decided that there would be multiple species, because orcs don't seem like the creative type.
