I have some ideas that I just can't keep in anymore so I have to spill it out.
1. How about a vault? It be easy to make. Arrange the iron blocks on the outside and put in iron ingot in the middle. After you lay it down you can create a code for it to open and store valuable stuff (ex. gold ingots, diamond). It would be able to resist creeper explosions. And then maybe use obsidian instead of iron blocks to create a super vault to resist TNT. Just a thought.
2. Slime Pets? Since there are no use for slimeballs yet, how about you can arrange the slime balls in like you would to make diamond blocks? Then as soon as you set it on the ground you have a friendly Slime! Also, you could command it like the wolves, too.
3.Since lighting will become available how about some lightning rods! Costs two iron ingots and arrange it like you're about to make a button. That way if you needed glass fast just stick a rod in the sand and wait for lightning to strike it and BOOM! Glass.
4. Marble should be implemented too! Make it rare, but not as rare as lapis lazuli. For crafting you can use stone (not cobblestone) pressure plates at the base and the marble down the middle. basically an upside down T. And now you have a statue. Placing it will randomly place a marble statue of any mobs (ghasts, pigs, spider jockey). Use diamond to mine it.
5. Crossbow? Bow and two wood planks arranged in a vertical line. Better range then a bow and more power, but with a slight bit of inaccuracy and a little bit slower at reloading.
6. Using bookcases to store information. Right clicking on a bookcase, you'll be able to type in any information you want in it like were your bases are located.
7. The ability to hang clocks on the wall. Do I really need to explain?
8. Nether Compass! This compass will always point to the portal you came through. Instead of iron ingots, though, use Netherrack. Like a regular compass in the Nether, a nether compass should spin around in the Overworld.
9. Redstone signs would be cool if you can't see because it is dark out. sign on top, redstone dust in the center, and a lever at the bottom. Right clicking the sign can turn it on or off.
For now these are the only things I can think of. I probably think of more later if it comes to me.

I like these ones, original, but crafting a slime? Meh, a bit silly. But alright, alright, adds a feature for the slime, for now. Even though I'm sure slimes won't just be a dead end by the full release.

7 is not original; I've seen it before. There's a one idea per thread rule (or ideas must be related,) so get rid of the other ideas and just keep 9.
Mostly moved on. May check back a few times a year.
