Seems to be the only idea that really stuck from the Beta thread, so I'll post it as its own thing here. It could be crafted directly from obsidian: 1 obsidian = 2 obsidian arrowheads, but only 1 arrow is created per ]" title="-<->" /> combo. Each obsidian arrow would do 3.5 damage (tell me if you think this is too much).
The idea is that these arrows are hard to make, but reward those who put in the extra effort to mine obsidian and who want an upgrade over the same arrows that skeletons use.
As for how they mesh in the inventory, obsidian arrows will fire first instead of flint arrows. However, if flint arrows are placed in the quick inventory bar and obsidian arrows aren't, the flint arrows will fire first.

It almost seems like 3.5 wouldn't be enough damage. Think about this: You have to have found diamond to get Obsidian and you only get two arrows from it? Not enough to kill even one enemy. Either you should get 2 Obsidian Arrows instead of one, or the damage should be more.
And before people say no, think about this. Obsidian is technically glass. It's not in Minecraft but still. It's hard and strong. And IRL it was used to make arrowheads too. Of course this is Minecraft, not reality, but come on. Obsidian needs SOME crafting use. Arrowheads are quite feasible.
I say it's fine if you just use a whole obsidian block and it makes 4 arrows, since although with the Nether lava (and by extension) obsidian are infinitely renewable, actually collecting the obsidian blocks to use in crafting both A) requires a diamond pick, and :cool.gif: is a significant time investment. I think 3.5 damage is spot on, that kills a normal mob in 3 shots (versus 5 for normal arrows), and a ghast in 2 (versus 3 for normal arrows).
Specifically, a large chunk of obsidian is, with a hammer stone (cobblestone, in this case), able to flush out nine flint arrowheads. That way there is no need to design a new arrow type, and it still gives obsidian a good usage in regards to crafting arrows. I'm sure it'd be quicker to farm flint from gravel, though.

Fire And Ice
Some say the world will end in fire
Some say in ice
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire
But if it had to perish twice
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice
Bow&Arrow all around needs tweaking to stop it being a neanderthal's machine gun and all. Pending that, I could support this. Hell, I wear an obsidian arrowhead.

Do you show children your phallus? Is that what you want them to see?

Proof that these actually exist: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Arrowhead.jpg
Thoughts?

Why is that?

Because it's awesome. :tongue.gif:
I don't know, it just seems too hard-to-get and time-consuming to only be used in nether portals and construction.
