Well, the wooden bucket is a quick way to get water.
The bucket will take more resources than an iron bucket. [] []
The bucket will harvest only a half size of water and cannot harvest lava. So it takes twice the time to fill something. So, it's a simple idea. Since it really isn't OP and can still harvest water, what is the verdict?

Interesting. It does seem a bit of a waste to use 3 ingots of iron to make a bucket.
I don't see how half blocks of water could be collected with it though since they aren't in the game as is and wouldn't really serve much of a purpose otherwise. Maybe only flowing blocks?

The iron bucket is a lot harder to make then a simple wooden one. I think Notch meant to have the Iron bucket take a little more effort to make.

A half block of water makes no sense as you need a source block which is a full block.
