when you die instead of all of your stuff dropping and scattering everywere it shud appear underneath a grave stone so you dont neeed to spend your valuable daytime searching for all of your stuff. To get too the stuff you will need to dig underneath the grave stone and your items will be laying in a empty space under the grave stone.
What if you die in lava? Does a gravestone appear in lava?
Either way, no. Dying should not clutter up the areas with a gravestone, and your items should not be saved for you. About the only penalty that is enforced upon death is the possibility of losing your stuff. Removing that would mean you would only die to refill your health bar, that's it.
I think there's already a mod for this, called "death chest" or something that spawns a chest containing your stuff where you died.
Death is hardly a penalty as it is. Losing your stuff (and possibly getting your shelter blown up by a creeper) is at the moment the worst that can happen (I like the half spawn health suggestion for exactly this reason).

So I think emphatically NO.
Perhaps this would be better as a mod.
