I know Notch has already talked about the size of the map and the problems ect. But I just have to say. It's not tall enough. I really want to make a map of the castle from Castlevania Symphony of the Night. I'm just drawing up the plan now and I'm even going to dig to the bottom of the map to have enough space. But I recently found out that the map can only be 124 blocks high. I kind of knew it was coming but well it made me sad. You see I'm using a square map of the castle for reference. The map is 48 blocks high and 60 long. I tried drawing maps with 3 mincraft blocks being equivalent to one block but that didn't work. I then Briefly tried 4 and even numbers don't look good. Finally I tried 5 and everything looked great. But with 5 the castle would be roughly 240 blocks high. I debated having the second have of the castle being in the nether but that wouldn't work. So please Notch I implore you make the map higher. You could either make the sky higher or have the bedrock lower or maybe just a little of both. I'm sure others would appreciate the increase especially with the adventure mode that's coming out. I don't know what the map problems where but hopefully they don't have to do with height. I mean you've already raised the height once why not again.
We're talking about a height increase in mewly generated maps. What are you saying?!!?
He's saying because of how map generation works, if you go too high, lower areas will cease to be generated. So if you fall, it'll be into nothingness.
But there are ways around that.

Octavia is best pony, yo.
Because only crazy people build...Right.
What?!
That's what I heard on either The Shaft or Minecast. Unless there's a mod, the ground really won't spawn below you while you're falling.

real mountains are miles high so really we only have hills.
Just have chunks vertical.
