Can push buttons, pull levers, and open wooden doors.* He can build with dirt to get to you. He has an iron sword, and wears armor. He may plunder your chests (items recoverable by killing him). He can shoot plundered items at you as weapons, with effects varying depending on the item. He is rare, but does not de-spawn until killed.
What do you think?
* Modified to remove the destruction of blocks.
** Possible addition ** Comes in pairs and can create bases to store plundered items. Hard difficulty would enable enemy bases with traps and other defenses.
The idea is good, but we should wait on the building blocks and stealing from you until Notch has fixed some of the bugs. Also, he hasn't even made a mob that can destroy blocks. Mo' Creatures, a mod, has made an ogre that does, however its not very realistic... All in all, I give you TNT. Do with it what you will:
If there is going to be more than one, holy ****. If there is only one, that would be boring.
Balance it out a bit so you can deal with multiple black knights.

Interesting. How about they spawn in sets of 4? Two would assault your base while the other two would build their own base to store plundered items. The base builders would defend the completed base while the others brought back items. If the difficulty was set high, they could also create traps in their base.
Interesting. I could see this working (successfully) if it were implemented in a different game mode. So it's kind of like pvp in multiplayer, but singleplayer. I like it.
This idea has merit, to be sure. But the AI for them would have to be really complex in order to have it that some do one thing while others do another, and to make sure that they all just don't do the exact same thing.
Also, like someone said above, Mo Creature's ogre was unrealistic and annoying as sh** how it could just destroy blocks willy-nilly. If this night were to be implemented, the way it destroyed blocks - if at all - would need to change.
Personally I dislike the idea of having humanoid NPCs. I realize tons of people would love to see NPC villages and stuff in survival, but I'd prefer to be the only sentient being in the world. :tongue.gif:

Wow, I know you don't like the idea of sharing your world, but you have a great idea there. An antagonistic NPC village sounds like a riot. What if certain in game actions created the NPC threat? Something like assaulting too many pigmen in the Nether causing an incursion into your world could make sense and be fun.
Sounds more like pirates now that they can makes bases with defenses lol
Honestly, pirates would be awesome. Perhaps whole Viking raiding parties would work. They roll up in long ships, pillage, and leave back to their town. How cool would that be? With the introduction of pistons in the next mod, it would be easy to build TNT launching canons to lay siege to a town. That would be sooooo much fun raiding their village to reclaim your stuff and find dungeon type treasures in their stash.

Support!
Dragons need to be implemented. No arguments.

They are 100% Awesome.
