Here's an idea to create more durable buildings and ward off griefers and vandals.
The reinforcement block could be constructed with either wood, stone, or cobblestone plus two iron ingots. The durability of the reinforced block would be about double that of stone. Not too strong on its own.
Here's how it protects your house. A reinforced block connects to every block touching it. They no longer can be individually broken, instead trying to mine or break any one of the blocks also causes the reinforced block and all its adjacent blocks to break simultaneously. The time to do this is equal to the time it would take to break all those blocks individually.
So for example, let's say you have a wall made of cobblestone with a reinforcement block in the center.
Those cobblestone blocks cannot be broken individually anymore. If you start mining one then all of them will simultaneously verrrryyy slowly become damaged and break together. It will take as much time as it would take to break 8 individual cobblestone blocks and 1 reinforcement block.
This by itself protects you against intruders making their own doors. They no longer can just quickly carve a little entrance, to get in they'll have to take down the whole wall.
What provides even more protection is the use of strong materials. For example, you could have a wall made mostly out of a weak material like wood, but add a reinforcement block and a strong material like obsidian to strengthen it.
That wall could only be broken together, and it would take as long as it would take to destroy 4 pieces of wood + 1 reinforcement block + 1 obsidian block.
Here's where the reinforcement block allows for extreme durability. Multiple reinforcement blocks can link to the same block.
So this....
Could only be broken together and would be as strong as 11 cobblestone blocks + 3 reinforcement blocks.
For structures you really want to protect you could have the reinforcement block network connect to your walls but extend far underground, where it will remain out of sight but connect to dozens (or hundreds! thousands!) of reinforcement blocks plus strong materials like obsidian so it could take a very very long time indeed to break your walls.

It could also be used as a defense against creeper and ghast explosions.
Cobblestone can block ghast attacks, bricks can block most creeper attacks.
And there is really no need for this, since greifers would use it to make dirt as strong as bedrock.
And if you build your house at the bedrock layer, you will never be able to move any blocks that you might have placed in the wrong place.
