You're right, slime does have no use. Neither does gravel for instance, unless you keep placing and mining it until you get flint.
The only problem is that getting mossy cobblestone is seen as a pinnacle of being a true Minecraftian; that you are willing to venture into dark dungeons, looking for mob-spawners which are as elusive as diamonds are, just to mine the few pieces of mossy cobblestone that are around it.
Building a house or a staircase out of mossy cobblestone shows your awesomeness and proof of this feat. (unless you use Single Player Commands, like me. :biggrin.gif:)
Using slime to create mossy cobblestone unbalances the game to a fair degree. I'm not saying it's a bad idea, I'm just saying many people will not support your idea, since it renders all of the hard work they previously went through completely moot.
Why would slime create moss? Moss grows in damp, dark places. If you want it, you should have to build near water (or bring water to the building) and cover the area in darkness (obsidian produces good shade) for a few Minecraft weeks.

If this thread were a girlfriend, it'd do everything but anal.
I'll pass... But nice attempt at making Slime Balls useful.
I stumbled across two dungeons while mining underground, and I was at 2 hearts when I came back up... But now I have a statue with a badass Mossy Cobblestone base to show the quest I underwent and I couldn't be happier.
And people complain about no uses for slime.
Well both fixed.
Seems like a lot of slime. Maybe just 1 slime per stone. or:

Mossy Cobblestone should be a rare item, or appear at rare times... I was reading this thread about it.
