With beta 1.5 coming out soon, and the addition of weather, I think we'll need a way to control it. Sporadic weather might be annoying. How many minecraftians will virtually commit suicide after hours and hours of nonstop virtual rain? Snow piling up in annoying places could irk some, especially on top of tall buildings.
So, I propose a Shaman Staff, to control the weather. At the cost of durability, it could create rain, snow, clear weather, or droughts(would increase size of sun, sky would become more orange, and grass will die and uncovered dirt slowly turns to sand. Mobs catch on fire at lower light levels).
A lesser shaman staff would have 5 minutes worth of durability. It is easy enough to make for a starting out player. It could only make clear weather, or the weather specific to that biome. Aka no snow in the desert. It would be created like this: ( =pumpkin, =bone.)

A greater shaman staff would have much rarer materials. It can also make any kind of weather anywhere, allowing, with multiple staves over a great deal of time, to completely terraform biomes. Christmas time? Want your base to temporarily be santas workshop, or get an egyptian theme? It would be crafted like this:

This isn't some fantasy RPG game. Also, use diagonal pixelart for the staffs.
But it is fantasy. With reanimate skeletons. And notch planning dragons and such:
Plus, I want to be able to control the weather, and a Cobra Commander weather dominator wouldn't quite work in minecraft. Finally, the greater staff gives a useful logical purpose to gold, which is rather lacking in value right now.

Gold, just like real life which didn't really have a use until microchips and nanomechanics. Well, and now bioengineering.
if you want to control the weather, make a reasonable system that balances it out. And makes sense . . . I mean, a pumpkin?
I don't really think this is a good idea, there should be elements of survival you can't tame only adapt to and the weather should be one of them.
I'm not opposed either though it's just i personally feel people should ask for the weather effects to be added to creative rather than add this to survival, then they can go make their perfect little homes there
If I wanted to survive, I'd spawn, dig down three blocks, then put a dirt over my head.
If I wanted to be in creative, I'd have weather that wouldn't change anything, none of the challenge of mobs, and only about a third of the blocks and absolutely no items.
I want weather, I don't want annoying uncontrollable weather. This works for what the game is. You don't have to adapt to anything else in survival mode. Why this? 1x1 towers negate gravity, foods and peaceful negate damage.

well, welcome to a game where people want a reasonable mix of those things, so you might want to suggest this as a mod.
Sounds like a good idea but a good addition to it is it DRAINS you of resources and its durability is 4 uses so it's like only use it if you are on the verge of dying of boardem
Weather control seems more fitting of a ritual than right click I'm done
That's why it's a shaman staff. With doodads a trinkets on it, it looks like something more tribal. Also, steve could shake it a bit.
I'm talking about a time consuming act with wasted resources and certain structures, rather than a staff you can carry around and change the weather anywhere any time. Which is what you seem to want, which is what I think is a bad idea.
Not a good idea...i mean i want weather and all but itll make the game more interesting to see what the weather will throw at us. It'll make players think of more ways to survive and use the weather to their advantage.

much better than my answer
