I think that the adventure mode possibilities of this game are severely lacking. Don't get me wrong I love the game, but by adding a few more items it could have so much more adventure potential. Trap doors have been talked about a lot, but this thread is for additional doors and keys.
I would like it if several different color or style doors could be made that cannot be opened by clicking on them. Instead it would be cool if you could make keys corresponding to the different types of doors such that a blue key could open a blue door. This would allow players to create dungeons where characters need to find chests containing the proper key before they can open a door and move to the next area.
:tongue.gif: I love this idea, I think that maybe keys should be consumable. You make the keys and the material you make them out of corresponds with the doors. Diamond Keys for diamond doors, Gold Keys for gold doors and so on.
I think making them consumable may become quite costly, perhaps adding a slot to the i ventory for keys u have made already but have them with a wear/tear rate slimilar to that of the materials they are made of they will last long.

However, you must consider the uses of this kind of doors in things other than just adventure maps, mainly, multiplayer.
It's pointless to make them, as anyone else who would have the right type of key could open your doors.
As for single player, well, why would you bother making doors that need a key? Key that, after several times, breaks?
Yea, it's good for adventure maps, but, that's it. Try to find applications for your ideas for every aspect of minecraft.
The adventure map I am doing is in multiplayer, not single player. There will always be ways around abiding by the intended ruled of adventure areas. Yes anyone else could have the same type of key and use it on your door, but then again they could just take a pickaxe and break your door too. The purpose of keys would be to allow a mechanism for players to have a dungeon like experience where they need to find and assemble items in order to continue the adventure.

I looked at the already "posted topics thread" and did a page search for the text 'key'. Nothing came up with the correct context.
