I hope OP falls in a bedrock pit that he can't get out of and pillaring has been removed.

The next time an authority asks me, "What could possibly have given you such a lack of respect for the value of human life?" I will respond, "Sir, have you even BEEN to the internet?"
I can't believe the OP. Unable to even read all our arguments, and unwilling to fix this when he does This thread is dead, nobody supports it, so I say CLOSE THE FRICKING LOAD OF CRAP!!!

At a loss for words? Here's a few you can use: Welcome, to Night Vale...
Come back when you have an actual positive addition to the game, like better AI/new mobs/hardercore mode, instead of just another one of your "I don't like this so get rid of it" threads.
What, pray tell, just what goddamn magic line was crossed when I first proposed something be eliminated to improve gameplay and then when I suggested it's removal could be in a new superhard difficulty setting?
None. You're just being an infantile ass to suggest otherwise. And if perhaps YOU could demonstrate your "non use" policy by just not reading my posts if you don't like them.

So much for keeping my cool.
Also, the not-having-a-well-thought-out-suggestion-line. Propose a solution that fixes the problem, obviously, removing pillaring, magically, without altering gameplay, is impossible. So rearrange the mechanics to fit your suggestion.
Otherwise you're just complaining.
also, don't see anything about superhard difficulty in your post

I don't know what to call it... the ability to look down, jump, and build a tower of blocks beneath oneself. Someone called it "pillaring".
It can become a cheat and I think it ruins gameplay. For instance in survival mode, one need not bother creating a quick shelter at night. One just can build a 15-20 block tower and watch the mods below not even detect your prescence. One need not have to strategize to get up a cliff face... one can create a tower to get to the top in seconds. When on a mountain top trying to get one's bearings, one can just build a quick tower. It detracts from the otherwise "real world" aspects of this virtual world.
It can be fun, but should not exist in Survival mode.
I can't believe the OP. Unable to even read all our arguments, and unwilling to fix this when he does This thread is dead, nobody supports it..
If the best you can do is make a point by bastardising the facts, you really haven't made a point, have you Fluffy? There's nothing unreasonable about what I proposed to improve gameplay in Survival mode... and if I never clarified it, I mean the HARD setting. Most object to the DISTORTIONS some CLAIM I am proposing.
What, pray tell, just what goddamn magic line was crossed when I first proposed something be eliminated to improve gameplay and then when I suggested it's removal could be in a new superhard difficulty setting?
I'd say the problem is where you continued with this thread, rather than taking your complaint to a thread based around a suggestion that it be removed in some superhard difficulty setting.
None. You're just being an infantile ass to suggest otherwise. And if perhaps YOU could demonstrate your "non use" policy by just not reading my posts if you don't like them.
I do that plenty. But the fun part about MY "Non-use" policy is that I retain the ability to participate when I choose too as well - especially when it keeps getting bumped to the top of the page and you keep refusing to listen to supportive ideas and instead just try to keep throwing some shoddy reverse psychology at everyone.
He could actually half redeem himself if he made any effort to create a way for the game to work where pillaring was not possible. But I just somehow doubt he will
Towering is an unintended (As far as I know) and overpowered thing that lets escape the first night by placing a few blocks
Dig a hole 3 blocks deep. Night escaped.
There is no problem with this being in the game. This thread is stupid, this suggestion is stupid, and the OP is a selfish ***** of the worst kind.
Good argument.
I personally think something should be done to stop that too though if something is done to stop this.
Also, he is really not being a selfish *****, just trying to improve the game.
Trying to improve the game, how? By removing useful elements that, if removed, the majority of players would say was a step backwards.
And why? No reason at all. It doesn't affect him at all unless he uses it, and that's a problem of his self-discipline to avoid it, not a fault of the game to be improved. He just wants to force everyone to play the way he wants, while ignoring all valid points and objections that don't support his chosen playstyle.
So how is he not being a selfish *****?
I'm going back to my Asian banana madness now.

To the mods... I have to apologize for my losing my cool. I think this thread has gone on long enough and should be locked and the newly created thread disrupter banned.
That's YOUR opinion

it happens often when someone's thread gets obliterated. They say it's because they themselves were not judicious, but it seems like they can't handle the avalanche of criticism and don't want people to hate them further.
Read some of my previous posts, it affects other people in a lot of different ways.
It's not just him, it is a lot of people.
If you have a fly mod installed its hard not to just use it if you are falling and about to die, but that ruins the fun.
Also, new players will not realise how certain are cheap and remove from the fun.
I am on my laptop now so I do not care about the banana gifs now, but you will probably be warned for spamming by the way.
Pillaring will not affect him if he doesn't use it.
His entire argument is that it cheapens the game: The perfect solution is that he shouldn't use it, and the game won't be cheapened. Other people cheapening their own survival affects nothing in his game.

Even when players can discipline themselves its less fun to not try to win.

He didn't propose an actual solution to the problem, and removing 1x1 towers by some arbitrary mechanics will not prevent 1x2 towers which are not to much harder to build

Yeah, the suggestion is not the best and has lots of problems.
I agree that fixing it would be hard and annoy a lot of people.
I am mainly still arguing against the ignorant "Don't like it don't use it" argument some people seem to think is the answer to everything.
I understand your position, but it's hard to not make a "don't like it don't use it" argument against a complaint that does not offer a solution
Its not fun if they are allowed to use overpowered things and you are not.
You are allowed though. Everyone is. And SMP issues alone is a shitty justification. Go on and remove the Nether, since they can't use that.
Find a server or players that will adhere to a no-pillaring law. Simple fix instead of this garbage demanding the absolute termination of a valuable practice that can't even be effectively removed without raping core gameplay.
Plus, his whole argument is that it's cheap mob avoidance. That's a single-player issue, in which case I refer both of you to my previous solution which, despite cries that it's ignorant, is the perfect fix for single-player games. And if he just can't avoid using it there, the solution is self-control.
So...
Single-player: Don't like it, don't use it. Can't control yourself? That's your problem, get some discipline classes. Perfectly valid fix.
Multi-player: Find a server or players that will adhere to a no-pillar law, or else create a server yourself. Again, perfectly valid fix.

This is just a bad idea and could severely restrict gameplay and ability to create a large structure of any sort. Building abstract things would become very difficult and spheres with a diameter of over 9 blocks would be virtually impossible to build. It's just common sense. Really.
Propose a solution that fixes the problem, obviously, removing pillaring, magically, without altering gameplay, is impossible. So rearrange the mechanics to fit your suggestion.
I have made suggestions as have others. It's just this tread was hijacked by the nay-sayers who think shouting someone down is a sufficient argument. I've proposed pillaring and simple hole digging as cheap survival tricks could be overcome with better mob AI. Having spiders climb is a step in the right direction. But I bet if someone proposed that 2 months ago, the nay-sayers would have jumped on them too because it changed the game.I've also proposed that certain capabilities only be taken out of a new superhard difficulty settings.
And BTW this isn't a forum for Java coders to show how something can be done. It's a forum for SUGGESTIONS on what those who code this game might consider. So I don't feel my inability to propose a coding solution disqualifies me from making such suggestions.
