What if there were goats? They could be found on mountainsides, and they are kinda like wolves and cows combined. They, too, will give you milk, but will stay in herds and in a pen when you put them in. They don't dissappear if you leave. They won't follow you, but they will stay in their pens until you milk them. They will attack if they are attacked, but won't attack a mob if you do.
Well, I mean, it's just like a cow that attacks if attacked, and stays when you go exploring. I guess they could drop wool like a sheep, too. So pretty much, they are an all around mob. It would look... hm... well, it would have white fur, curly horns, and black hooves...
Interesting concept... And its relatively original.
Also Deathguardian97, rams and goats are different species. Male sheep are called Rams and male goats are called Billys or Bucks. No offense, just wanted to through it out there.

At a loss for words? Here's a few you can use: Welcome, to Night Vale...
its unnecessary, but i do see train tracks of thought to reach this idea. i just simply dont think its a good idea. i too have spent 3 hours herding cattle and sheep into my house, only to return from gathering resources to find that they have all despawned. but ur goat/ram idea is a bit cheating, and not in the spirit of the game. an all around mob, especially one that doesnt despawn removes the need to leave the shelter, and there for defeats the purpose of the game, essentially. all uv done is created a shut in with 50 cats (in this case goats) who refuses to open the door for fear of creepers.
however, i am proud that u noticed these nuisances to players, and attempted to create a fix. the fix, however, is too good. it solves the problem so beautifully that it removes the need for the circumstances that created the problem (the game).
**edit** and yes, the wolf herding idea was excellent. i would definately like to see that implimented with neutral mobs and existing wolves. might even get as in depth as classing of the wolves... then it would be more MineSkillTree than MineCraft
Then how about you have to feed it something, something hard to get, to actually have it to get milk. It'll be a darkish white, and when you feed it, say a golden apple, then it turns pure white. Then you know it's ready to milk. And also, the wool grows back much slower than sheep wool does. That way, it's not technically cheating, 'cause you have to still work with it to get what you need. The only reason I came up with this idea was because I'm trying to make a cake, and I can't find ANY cows to get milk from. I have, like, 6 buckets, but 0 cows.
