Alright, before I go into detail: I used searches, and 'Vines' along with several other things have been suggested. Although, the threads were very old, so I wanted to make a somewhat updated version.
On another note: It's one in the morning here, so bare with me if I make any grammatical mistakes or w/e. I'll go through and fix them.
Anyway, onto the first topic:
Vines.
The purpose of vines is basically to have a 'Growing Ladder', almost. Here's how I picture it to work, and the mechanics.
Vine will spawn AT RANDOM, growing on cliff faces, or other flat vertical surfaces. These can be harvested by punching it. It will drop one vine. For it to grow, it needs:
A wall/cliff face
Dirt/Stone/Wood (Planks)
Also, they could optionally grow on this wood structre (You'll have to excuse me, as I cannot remember the name for now.): []
[] [] []
Which gives you two. These can serve as an optional surface for the vines to grow on. The next thing about vines is how fast they'll grow. I'd see them growing at something like one block per three minecraft days (After all, in real life, they grow SLOW.). Also, these can double as a ladder. When climbing UP them, they serve as a ladder, but possibly slower, considering you're climbing a plant. Although, when you take a jump from a tall structure/cliff, and want to jump off, these ALSO work like that. But, they will not slow your descent as much as a normal ladder does. Also, for this, you have to take into consideration, the height you jump from, how much vine there is to slow you, are more mechanics that I won't go into for now.
Next Topic: Carnivorous Plants
These will range in size from small to large. Small being the size of a step, and large being two blocks tall. There will be different species, such as a Venus Flytrap, or a Pitcher Plant.
The Flytraps will be in shade, under trees, or in a dimly lit place with dirt. They only attack when bumped into. These are growable. To grow them, you have to use a Stone or stronger Hoe to retrieve them. This will destroy the Venus Flytrap in the process, but will produce one or two Venus Flytrap Seeds. For these to grow, they'll need shade, and dirt. The size of these will be anywhere from the 3/4 block size (A cobblestone/wood step) to one normal block.
The Pitcher Plants will be at least one block tall at minimum, and two blocks tall at maximum. These will reside in deep forests, or, off the side of a small drop (Small being three-four block cliff faces inside of a forest.) These actually grow by the cliffs for a reason, to obtain thier food. If you were to fall off a cliff, you'd fall inside. Let's have the Sheep demonstrate for us. = Player = Small cliffside = Pitcher Plant
So, Sheep falls in, and sits inside of there. At first, only the fall damage is taken.(Also, Pitcher Plants actually contain sweet nectar that attract bugs. But, for MC purposes, we'll use digestive acids! Sounds fun, right?) Then, the Pitcher's acids start to kick in. Every two seconds, you'll take a half of a heart in damage. Now, sheep is panicking. He needs to know how to get out! Here's how: You can punch your way out, which takes ten seconds, or alternatively, use a sword to slice right through it in a matter of two seconds. This will destroy the Plant in the process, but allows you to get out right away. Note: The explination above was for a Two Block tall Plant. For one block tall plants, you can just simply jump out. This will allow you to harvest it! To harvest, use a stone or better hoe. You use the hoe on the Pitcher Plant, and it yeilds one to two seeds. For these to grow in your own garden, you'll need to have shade.
Anyway, that's all I can think of for now. Please leave suggestions, ideas, criticism, and all that stuff below. Thanks,
DBH
