Now, I've used the Google search thing to find some things, but they were very old topics, lurking in the twentieth page or so. So I decided to post up a new thread on my presentation of a sandstorm.
Now, with the new additiion of weather coming in 1.5 , we should have some type of weather for deserts! Now, sandstorms aren't technically weather, but they are close enough. :3 Sandstorms would occur just like any other, except in deserts. Basically, they would blur the screen and randomly drop sand blocks in some places. maybe even cover your house roof in sand! That's pretty much all I've come up with at the moment.
Good idea, but as the above poster said, not very good-looking with the small biome size.
The sandstorm should slowly damage you over time if you stand in it, because of all the sand grains blowing around. Obviously, blocks would obstruct the wind, so you'd be safe inside your base. It should also have visible particles of sand to show where the wind is blowing, and you'd be pushed and slowed down by the gusts.

"Minecraft? Realistic? Really? This is a game where you punch trees to get wood, you can make the wood into wooden planks in less than five seconds, and trees don't fall even if you remove a piece of the trunk from the middle. This is a game where animate corpses, giant spiders and exploding green terrorists emerge at night to hunt you down, farm animals run rampant across the countryside, and you can stop the flow of molten lava with a block of snow."
Sandstorms should have a given direction (north, south, east, west)and when the storm comes into contact with a non-sand block on the side it is blowing, it will create a sand block there.
i think random sand blocks appearing would be a problem, as with time the area would be completely filled with sand.
it would be better if they appeared as sand coverings (like snow) which doesn't keep on piling up, and like snow, you would use a shovel to get it. the result could be combined in a 2x2 grid just like snow to from a block. also if the sand was on dirt, the grass would turn a sandy colour

Post complaints and maybe support!
