Hello, I am new to the game and I would like to made a suggestion.
In Minecraft, there are tropical terrain and snow terrain. It is fun, but sometimes it feels like such a waste for having only two form of landscape in a very very large map. so i would like to suggest adding New Terrain , a Volcano Terrain. I don't know if it's possible so i just put it out there.
Before typing this suggestion, I googled and found 2 similar suggestions. They are volcano biomes and New Mode: Volcano Mode. However, I would like to propose a different idea which doesn't have any dragon or bring any destruction to the environment, nor it will be a different mode, but just a plain simple terrain completely merged into the world of minecraft.
Desciption
In my vision, I picture the terrain would be something like Mordor in The Lord Of The Ring. A constantly erupting tall volcano located in rare location, bringing smoke into the sky. The sky will be covered in black smoke . Only a glimpse of light can occasionally pass through the thick smoke and shine on the darken land but soon disappear again. The land will be covered in rocks, dust and soil without grass. Trees that grow on this land will have much less or no leaves on them, showing the wilderness of the volcano. Animals in here are rare. For survival, They travel in packs and quickly migrate into other places. Layers beneath the surface, there will be rich mineral mine which no one has set foot on ...yet. Mordor (From Wiki)
Main Features
*This Terrain on exist in small amount
*Constant small eruption creating a beautiful landscape
*The environment will be slightly dim because of the smoke in the sky
*Richer rare mineral such as iron and diamond
*No large eruption that damage the surrounding environment (what's the point anyway)
*Rain in this terrain may have slight small negative effect on you
Advantages
*Beacuse of the rare quantity of volcano, it motivates players to explore the surface world to find those volcano exist in their world more , brings in more flesh and new gaming experience
*An exotic place like this can really brings out the fun in creating different style buildings
*Richer mineral can make it the mining centre , making minecart have more good use
Troubleshooting
*How do you distinguish a volcano from simple lava? i don't want my homemade lava fountain darkening the sky.
- i think it could be resolve if only lava over certain altitude can darken the sky , and the scale of the darkening only depends on the scale of the lava over certain altitude. This way players can create a volcano for own purposes and it will not change the mineral hidden underground. So it won't defeat the purpose of a natural volcano terrain.
*What is the different between this and the Nether?
- I think of this Terrain as more peaceful compare to the Nether which is more dangerous. Nether is too difficult to build anything because you need a portal and a loading screen everytime you enter the Nether. Nether is good for adventure and fast travel the surface world. The Terrain can make you see the darken sky and your accomplishment far far away at other location of the world and creating a connection to your other accomplishment.
A connection can be made though. If players can dig into the heart of the volcano, they will fall into a portal to Nether. (Is it possible?)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I know that there may be other terrain added in the future and i would really love to see Volcano would be one of them. So many possibility can be done, a world with a few exotic volcano waiting for travelers to discover, or a tropical forest surrounded by hundreds of volcano like a oasis to a desert, waiting for travelers to discover. A volcano in Minecraft would be like leaves to a flower or trees to a river . It makes the minecraft world alive.
You thought this well out, but first things first.
There are many biomes in minecraft ranging from forests to tundras to deserts.
Volcano's should have there own biome anyway, because of there effect on the surrounding landscape, and you did a good job of describing it. It would be nice to have a "volcanic sand" block that was essentially a really dark sand, that could be smelted into a darker glass.

Overall... I APPROVE!!!
props for the well thought out idea.
Thank you very much~ :smile.gif:
The "Surrounding Biomes" is a good idea

...Is this a suggestion for volcanoes or Mordor?
Nah, but I was inspired by it (that's why i look it up at wiki first and borrow he image)
i googled volcano to gather more info before i made the suggestion
A constant eruption is a much slow volcanic activity that can last hundreds of years while a large eruption is more stunning but short-lifed.
so I pictured the terrain with both in my head, adding a little stunning and dramatic effect and brings out the life in it.
but god It will be fun to build Mordor with the giant eye
