I know this is my first topic but iv'e been around along time, since indev and infdev actually.
This is a suggestion, Not a mod!
Anyway i would like to suggest a new in ground ore, no new metal or complex material, just a ore called Alienite which when its surface is exposed to oxygen it glows very bright with a green hue. Its ore can be broken to obtain 4-5 Alienite dust piles. Alienite ore occurs 0.9% that of stone and can generally be found near bedrock and lava areas. Alienite is named for its bright green alien-like glow.
The appearance would be a lot like all the other ores except neon green. it also glows a lot like redstone with the particles and whatnot except it always glows with a... radioactive look... that can't be good. Alienite torches never burn out and create no smoke, alienite ore glows with 12, the solid block form glows with 15, and the torch also glows with 15 (btw the highest glowing objects are a tie between lava, fire, glowstone, and jack-o-lanterns at 15 glow, alienite however is not as hazardous as lava or fire, and not as unobtainable as glowstone or jack-o-lanterns if you mine more than explore like me)
Thats it?
Well thats about it for its useful purpose, but what about its secondary? Diamonds make good equipment - but also jukeboxes. same with many other blocks. (except gold lol)
Fireworks - believe it or not, I haven't seen any good suggestions about fireworks so here is mine.
= redstone dust pile
[] [] = firework tube
Fire work tubes are almost EXACTLY like dispensers except that the only thing they fire are fireworks. different types of fire works can be made out of sulfur,redstone, gunpowder, Aleinite, and dyes. also by using repeaters you can make complex pyrotechnics, not to mention you can use redstone repeaters to make songs to play along aswell!
While the Alienite, gunpowder, sulfur, and redstone make different firework types the dyes change the color of the particles.
materials = particle pattern/type
dye = color
Equipment
Alienite is stronger than you think it would be, its as strong as iron! In fact you can make tools out of it which are medium strength (as tough as iron tools) and also glow with lvl 12 glow, making them valuable on harder difficulties.
Properties
Alienite only glows when in contact with air (for lag and detail purposes only :biggrin.gif:) though it's not because of the oxygen in the air. It's because of the moisture in the air. When Alienite is close to water it glows more, this will help you sense when your caves about to hit ocean and flood and also make swamps of awesome glows!
Alienite only looks different when five or less blocks away from water, otherwise it stays the same glow (15 if block or torch, 12 if ore or tool) If contacting it glows with a blinding 20 glow, and for every block away it glows one less,(stops after 5 blocks at 15 glow) The opposite affect occurs when close to lava, going as low as 10 glow when in contact! 20 19 18 17 16 15 15 15 15 14 13 12 11 10

Well as you read (hopefully) you can make tools which light-up for spelunking and fireworks that work with redstone to make displays of your ability to sync music boxs with cool in air explosions, besides what i have already writen - not much.
