These are three of my ideas that I think would be really helpful.
1 - An object such as a whip that would not harm mobs. This would be helpful because it would allow the player to move peaceful mobs such as sheep into pens with much ease, so that they could stay there to be sheared at will. Another possibility could be a leash, but putting a leash on a sheep/pig/cow is weird, so don't do that.
2 - A recycling or trash bin would be beneficial, though I could see how it would be bad because it could permanently delete blocks from the game. This would be helpful for mass amounts of dirt or stone that need to be removed, especially for some people who are driven mad by just dropping items and waiting for them to disappear. This one is more of an aesthetic thing though. My idea with the recycling bin though could allow items put into the bin to just be relocated to a random, undiscovered part of the map though.
3 - The murkiness of the water is a double edged sword in my opinion. While it's impermeability to light is realistic, it's a bit frustrating. Underwater lamps would be a simple solution.
4 - Bucket + cow = milk. Simple enough, yeah? When I first started playing minecraft, I kind of just expected it to already be there. I felt pretty stupid whacking a cow with a bucket to no avail. On the other hand, food items are a bit overdone in minecraft, because having to many is just unnecessary. It's debatable.

#1; Use a fishing rod.
#2; Use an incinerator. Be creative. Do some of the work yourself.
#3; Jack-O-Lanterns (from pumpkins) or Glowstone blocks (from the nether)
#4; It's already in.
#5; This is a wishlist, and against the rules of the sub-forum. Lrn2readrules.
