What do you do when ladders are messing up your base layout? What will you do when you find that the recipe for a ladder is too costing? Well here are some ideas.
A Drop-Down ladder.
Well make a ladder in a 3x3 crafting position to create a drop-down ladder. What is the advantages of this? Well for one thing you can instantly place 9 ladders from a position. This makes ladder making more worth it.
You may be wondering why should you have to make this when you can just place the ladders manually? Well, for one you can save time. For another you can carry it anywhere to instantly save lives.. With a ladder. Another is it can be dropped down to a space without a block. This means some Movecraft airplane can drop-down it's passengers just by placing this ladder. See? When you mine the ladder you get an ordinary ladder and the other ladder pieces it was connecting to to the top. Mining the top returns the Drop-Down Ladder.
Hoe as climbing utensil.
Hoes looks like those climbing thingies mountaineers use. What if using it to climb blocks can be possible? This is how it works:
Right clicking on a block sticks you to it, forever until you get hit or jump. This consumes double durability. To move upward, just jump and right click. Jumping risks you to fall. This gives hoe-climbing some challenge.
This is balanced because double durability=negative 20%
chance of falling to your death=negative 30%
instant climbing=positive 40%
Quick to create=Positive 10%
Weight-affected block.
Sand falls. Obsidian is impervious to TNT so I thought of this recipe:
How does this work you may ask? Well, stepping on it will let you fall down. Somewhat like an elevator. It can be controlled by a lever though. Placing a lever near the Weight block will negate the gravity affect.
Thoughts? These don't seem imbalanced in my eyes, I hope the same in yours.

A man can only understand the worth of his present for all eternity once he gets to see his future and past just once.
I'm sorry I just don't like the ideas. However that is only my opinion.
Lets see what others have to say about it.
Don't be sorry! It's an OPINION. Saying sorry to some other dude will make the mentality that "Negative Replies are trolls" bigger in his/her/it's mind! I don't mind if you don't like it. I honestly don't. Hope you have a nice day!

Looks pretty good, but the elevator would be rather costly. How about:

Where the is redstone? We need more smilies here :tongue.gif:
Also, I reckon that it should function differently. If it recieves a redstone current, it would switch from up to down, or vice versa. When it was up, it'd check for blocks above it and keep going up until it hit something. If you blocked it with signs or torches, it'd leave a space there, so people don't get crushed. The same for going down. If you screwed it up, you'd have to climb to the top of the map to flip it though :tongue.gif:
As for the ladders, I support that idea, with some changes. How about:
1. Craft extendo-ladder
2. Place extendo-ladder
3. Right-click to switch between folded and extended
If you mine any part except the top, it would fold up instead. It would also check whichever direction had the most space (Defaulting to down if they both have 8 or more blocks free) and it'd extend that way. Here's a diagram: (Extendo-ladder main section) (Extended part) (You mining it) Would result in:

[] (And probably falling to your death)
To fold it up, you can either destroy the lower section or right-click the top. Destroying the top folds it up and mines it successfully for re-placing, of course.

And I'm not sure if the elevator fits the game... like when people suggest guns :tongue.gif:
It's not an elevator. It's a chunk of sand strapped to a plank of obsidian that obeys the laws of gravity and obeys the law of redstone.
