1) Drawbridges: like big doors that fold upward and can be used over moats.
2) Animal Breeding: all the animals, or maybe just farm animals, eventually have babies which slowly grow. Perhaps the player can feed the animals certain things to promote different characteristics in their offspring. Mendel's genetics experiments, anyone?
