I was thinking that a good usage for slimeballs is to slowdown enemies. I'm thinking that first you have to cook slimeballs in a furnace, to make it sticky, then you could place it on the ground to slow down mobs without using soul sand. or you could just throw it.
To throw the slime balls you could just throw it like snowballs, or using a slingshot (if notch adds one) and to make a slingshot maybe you could do this for the base:http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/5596806732/

9 slimeballs crafted = one non-despawnable tiny slime. Toss in generic pet commands: Follow, stay, aggressive mode, release to wild, etcetera.
Is it a great idea? **** no. But it kills two constantly-annoying birds with one stone.
