By "Mod selector", I mean something similar to the texture pack selector. Giving Minecraft the ability to easily and efficiently load mods. At the same time making it easier to select which mods are currently being used. The Mod selector would work like the texture pack selector, but instead have a sort of check box selection so you can have multiple mods active at the same time. And instead if going directly into the JAR file, you could install them like the texture packs too. Just have a folder that you would put RAR files in, and the RAR files would contain the mod you want to use. Now, I know of a mod similar to this already (the MyCraft mod), however I do not feel it has the simplicity that the Mod selector would have. Also having the selector built into Minecraft would save much hassle on either trying to get the MyCraft mod, or installing the mod you wanted. The Mod selector could also have it's own place on the Minecraft menu. And I feel that it could fit right in with the other menu selections.
I am no mod creator (yet, I might dabble in mod creation later) and I do not know if it would be difficult or time consuming or anything of that sort, so I don't know if it would be in best interest, but this was simply an idea and I thought it would prove useful to other Minecraft users. So please, at least consider it. Thank you.
I think he's already doing that behind closed doors.
Due to the whole Mods stealing passwords issue that happened recently, I think people should be able to submit mods to Mojang for "approval", then from there have it on their website where a easy download is available. Then from there, it will go into a certain format compatible with Minecraft, so you don't have to manually install everything. Once in this folder, it'll work like the texture packs, but being able to choose multiple mods. This would require both Mojang and the modders to get on the same page. But I'm not sure, maybe there's technical issues why this isn't plausible.

Well, I hope Mojang is working on something like this. It would save us mod users much grief. And I'm sure they could figure out a way to make it work. On a side note, you may be full of fail, but your name is win.
Just that notch has said he is working on it.
He said it both the update prior to the official texture pack support and on the texture pack support update.
A search of the forums would yield many result

Heck, opening up the minecraft launcher would show you that it has been planned.
Third option down on the main menu. "Mods and Texture Packs"

Not because of the concept: I love the concept.
