Introduction:
I believe that Minecraft is a game that if fun because of it's relative simplicity. This simplicity allows for fun and unrealistic gameplay. So what's with all of these suggestions and mods that make the game way too realistic and complicated? That takes the fun out of the game! I believe that there should be a balance of fun and realism to keep Minecraft fun.
One place I think Minecraft could be made more realistic, but keep its simplicity and level of fun, is the method and forms of cooking. I mean, come on! Dont' you think it's just a little bit silly that you can cook ham in an industrial forge that you also use for smelting iron and glass? I do. I also think Minecraft could get away with adding a little bit more to the methods of cooking.
I've searched on Google and I haven't seen any suggestions like this. If there already is one, I'm sorry for wasting your time. I think there is already another post, but it's also by me.
Introducing the Stove:
How about this, instead of burning our porkchops and fish out of existence, why not add a block that allows for semi-realistic cooking. The solution to this? The Stove!
The interface you would get when right-clicking on this block would be similar to the one you get from the furnace, but could only be used to cook food items. This would also mean that food could no longer be cooked in the furnace. The stove interface would have a 3x3 crafting square instead of the single input the furnace has. It would have the same fuel input and output as the furnace.
Fuel would still be required for the stove. I think that the stove should only use wood products for fuel, but have their fuel values be changed to last longer for food only. This is because cooking food requires MUCH less heat than smelting iron and such. I think coal might be okay, but lava buckets would definitely be out of the question.
IDEA: allowing food to be stacked up to 8's, maybe
PRO'S:
- relatively easy to make early on in the game
- not absurdly expensive
- probably not hard to code
CON'S:
- no quick access to cooked meat or bread
Introducing the Mill:
I also think it's quite silly that you can make bread and cake using solely wheat. I think there should be a step in between harvesting and cooking. This is where the mill block would come into play.
( = Redstone )
The interface for the mill would be almost the same as the furnace's. Maybe there would be gears on it instead of flames, I don't know. The mill would not run on fuels, but on redstone. Items processed by the mill would be:
- sugarcane --> sugar
- wheat --> flour
- cacao pods --> cacao beans
(if you don't know where the cacao pods come from, i'll link to a great suggestion here: http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=252130)
Maybe it could also be used to make dyes:
- cactus --> cactus green
- rose --> rose red
- yellow flower --> dandelion yellow
I think that this would add a simplistic and fun touch to the element of cooking.
PRO'S:
- also no terribly hard to make or to code (probably)
- makes bread worth it's hefty healing power of 2.5 hearts
CON'S:
- requires redstone to make (please suggest other ideas for crafting)
If you're too lazy to read this whole thing, summary below:
- new stove block used to cook food
- new mill block used to process certain ingredients and dyes
I like the idea of a stove instead of using the furnace. It makes the game more realistic, which I kinda miss.
But the windmill: how big would it be? I mean, if the process of making a windmill is as simple as you show, it would be to easy, in my opinion. Well, it does depend on how big it have to be. If it's fullsize 1:1, it would be to big, but a little handdriven would be better or something. I don't know. Otherwise I think it is a good idea to make cooking more diffucult

I didn't mean it to be a full sized windmill, but a standard block that runs on electricity, which is why I think it should be powered by redstone. That's also why I think it doesn't make the game too easy because redstone is needed.
