Well I have been annoyed for a long time, as I am sure many of us are, about the lack of control over fluids redstone gives us. While there are certainly some liquid control systems, they require manual resetting after every use. And idea I have been toying with for a while is liquid nozzles.
Recipie:
[] [] -> Water Nozzle
[] []
[] [] -> Lava nozzle
[] []
is bucket of water, is bucket of lava and is a piece of redstone dust.
These blocks would look like the original blocks ( , ), with a nozzle carved out on one side.
Placing these nozzles works similar to stairs. When you place them, the nozzle end faces towards the direction it was faced.
When a nozzle recieves power from a redstone wire, it creates it's respective liquid spawn directly in front of the nozzle end, as if someone had placed a bucket of the liquid directly in front of it. When it stops recieving power, the liquid disappears, as if someone picked up the spawn with a bucket. Of course, this would still leave the problem of cleaning up lava.
It could also be possible to change (either through right-clicking or a different recipie) the nozzle to a toggle nozzle, which toggles producing the liquid every time it recieves power, rather than only producing liquid when it is recieving power.
So they take up 1 block extra, not a big deal, and all the other advantages far outweigh anything these nozzles have.
I have many times run into space constrictions while constructing redstone contraptions. My own personal opinion is that 1 block extra space can be a pain to get in.
But to use them, you have to have a water flow entering them.

No, these would allow infinite water with no work, at all.
How so? You need a bucket of water/lava to craft them. It's pretty much a bucket a water/lava you can turn on or off.
Same as grates, and a single grate functions for both water and lava, they have great aesthetic uses, and their two types allow for more compact use. Unlike your nozzles, they could also send water straight downward, not just to an adjacent block.
Only downside is that at minimum, they take up 2 blocks as opposed to 1, which is negligible.
That didn't actually answer my question, but I see your point. The only problem could be if you wanted a ring of grates to turn on or off, powering them all could be a *****.

So, ideas and suggestions?

What's up? I'm the proud co-owner of a little ClassiCube server called Minebuild.

Sometimes, you just need a little more cave.
