I was looking at some mob suggestions yesterday, and somehow or another, I had the idea for a new cave hazard. This new mob would be called a Whomp. Whomps would typically dwell in caves, crawling around on the ceiling and remaining relatively neutral. However, if the player walks under one, it lets go of the ceiling, falling onto the player and dealing great damage. Now it may seem relatively easy to avoid these things as long as you watch the celing, but the hazard is increased by the fact that whomps have the same texture as smooth stone, and basically just look like a normal block with two arms and three-fingered hands, making them hard to see in cave lighting. Whomps could be killed, but have reasonably high health and, if not killed fast enough after they hit the ground, will just scuttle back up to the celing and continue mulling around until another unsuspecting victim walks under them. Whomps also will not take fall damage, so the player can't just kill them by continuously making them fall and then running out of the way. Whomps will not just kill the player though. If any good, bad or neutral mob walks beneath them, the same surprise attack will occur, making them highly useful for mob traps. (Zombie spawns, Whomp kills zombie, player makes a protective layer between himself and the whomp and collects the goodies.) Whomps would also come in other varieties for other areas, such as dirt textured whomps dwelling under over-hangs and trees, and Netherwhomps, the Netherrack textured whomps that could spawn pretty much anywhere in the infinitely-celinged Nether. Whomps would also break any block they fall on that has a hardness level lower than that of the material that they're textured as, making glass and wood barriers useless as protection in caves. When killed, Whomps would drop some of the block they're textured as, sometimes up to 3. If anyone has suggestions, criticism, brutal trolling, or even a better name for these mobs, please tell me. Also, if I could get anyone to do some images of this, that'd be awesome. I don't remember who that was who made the quintesential creatures mod, but images like his mob suggestions would be cool, even if they aren't as high of quality.
Also there would be an easy way to fight them: Place a block under them and then kill them.
Eh, copyrights probably wouldnt be too much of an issue. Sure, names are similar, but that can be changed. And these ones crawl around on celings using arms, as opposed to the horizontally stationary mario Thwomps.
And yes, you could just place a block between you and it to kill it, but that requires making an entire line of blocks form one of the walls, since you can't just place a block in midair.
I can see this isn't going anywhere fast. I guess I need to lower the lengths of my posts, lol. Anyways, more comments and criticism are appreciated. Prefferably. compliments. I currently have a record of 2 uber supported suggestions and 2 ubertrolled suggestions. Hopefully I can keep my ratings above a 50%. :tongue.gif:
EDIT: Lol, Xazo, I just noticed your avatar and the fact that you have a "Tak" ending on ur Username. Scratch, ftw. Man, I remember the days of MakiTak. Good times, man, good times. That was one of the greatest scratch sub-wars ever. Yay for references only I could ever possibly understand. :biggrin.gif:
lol i just noticed the mario whomp and this whomp have the same name lol!
I support, this is pretty cool, but what do they drop?
Themselves!
lol that was terrible.
But seriously, they would really just drop whatever block they were textured as, making cave Whomps a great source of smoothstone without having to smelt stuff. There would also be the occasional obsidian Whomp, dwelling around or in lava that would give a source of obsidian without needing a diamond pickaxe.
And yes, names are similar to those used in Mario Bros games, but the Mario enemy is a "Thwomp", as opposed to the Whomp. Again, I'm pretty flexible with this name wise, so if anyone has better ideas for it's name please tell me.

The pen is mightier than the sword, or in this case, the text is mightier than the troll.
